7 May 2017 - The Lord Saves Us Everyday - Pastor Joseph Prince Sermon Notes Online - New Creation Church Sermon Notes OnlineThe deeper root of stress is fear. That's the deepest that the world can go. Only the word of God can go deeper - the deeper root of fear is condemnation. God sought out man. The Good Shepherd is the One who seeks the lost sheep. We use the term "I found the Lord" but actually it is the Lord Who found us. I Samuel 13:19 - At this point in time, Israel was subjugated by its enemies, the Philistines. The devil is afraid that we would use the word of God against him. “Now there was no blacksmith to be found throughout all the land of Israel, for the Philistines said, “Lest the Hebrews make swords or spears.”” (I Samuel 13:19 NKJV) Ephesians 6:17 - God's word is a sword that cuts away bondages in our lives. During the temptation in the wilderness, our Lord Jesus gave us a pattern of how to fight against the devil: by using the written word of God - "It is written...". Jesus didn't quote the spoken word of God (The Heavenly Father had just spoken to and affirmed Jesus at the River Jordan, saying that He is the beloved Son in Whom The Father is well-pleased). He quoted the written word of God against the devil's temptations. “And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God;”(Ephesians 6:17 NKJV) Matthew 6:34 - Jesus said don't worry about tomorrow. Don't worry about tomorrow and miss out on what God is saying to you today. The best way is to live in the moment. You won't live in fear and worry because these two have got to do with the future. Condemnation and regret has got to do with the past. God gave the children of Israel manna in the wilderness one day at a time. If they kept the manna until the next day, it would become rotten and breed worms. God's grace is given to us on a day-by-day basis. “Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about its own things. Sufficient for the day is its own trouble.” (Matthew 6:34 NKJV)
I Samuel 14:1 - At this point in time, King Saul was backslidden. He had a ephod but it was just an outward show of religiosity.
His son Jonathan was the one with dynamic, living faith at this time. When God's Spirit is moving, He zooms in on the one who has dynamic, living faith. A person can have a form of religiosity yet have no faith. Jonathan was a young man at the time. When God called the prophet Jeremiah he was a youth. When Daniel and his three friends were taken captive, they were just teenagers and could be used by God. Some people think that the Bible says that only old people can be used by God. No, the ways of God is not like that of the world. You don't need to accumulate life experience before God can use you. God can use you even if you are young. The young man who was with Jonathan is unnamed. It is better to be with an unknown (not famous or prominent) person full of dynamic, living faith than with a person who has many accolades and no faith anymore. God can save even without a spear or sword. Gideon and his 300 men defeated their enemies with just trumpets and pitchers. When the Lord is in it, you are the majority. “Now it happened one day that Jonathan the son of Saul said to the young man who bore his armor, “Come, let us go over to the Philistines’ garrison that is on the other side.” But he did not tell his father.” (I Samuel 14:1 NKJV) Daniel 1:15 - "Fatter" means firmer. Daniel became more good-looking after he followed God's ways. Goliath was ugly. David (He belonged to God) was ruddy and good-looking. Isaac's wife Rebekah was beautiful. Sarah was beautiful and even in her sixties a heathen king wanted her for his harem. When you follow God you will never lose out. “And at the end of ten days their features appeared better and fatter in flesh than all the young men who ate the portion of the king’s delicacies.” (Daniel 1:15 NKJV) I Timothy 6:11 - In the Old Testament, very few people have the title "Man of God": Moses, Samuel, Elijah, Elisha, and Shemaiah. In the New Testament only one person has that title: Timothy. Paul called Timothy that. Timothy was a young man at that time. God is calling all young men to be men of dynamic, living faith who will cause the name of Jesus to be highly exalted. “But you, O man of God, flee these things and pursue righteousness, godliness, faith, love, patience, gentleness.” (I Timothy 6:11 NKJV) Hudson Taylor, a famous missionary in the 1800s went to China to minister to the Chinese when he was only 21 years old! Don't let anyone take precedence over Jesus. They will never suffer if you put Jesus first. When you put Jesus first, you will never lose out. The devil knows that the longer you wait before doing something for God, the worse it will be. Young men are the ones that God is looking for. I Samuel 14:4-7 - "Uncircumcised" refers to the world who don't have God. Don't think that you are like the world. You are a child of God. You are not like the world. The world says you will get old and sick when you are 50 - reject that in Jesus' name! Don't let the world, Hollywood, etc, teach your children their values. Let your children learn their values from the holy word of God. Hollywood is not evil or bad as a whole, it's not bad or good. But the values coming out from them are not from God. "The Lord" is "Yahweh" which means "The Covenant-keeping God". It speaks of covenant grace. Yahweh (Jesus) would come in the flesh years later. Jesus' name means "The Lord Saves". Jesus doesn't just save us from hell. He saves us everyday! You have the Lord with you! He even saves you from yourself. Tiger Woods is best at golf. Michael Jordan is best at basketball. Saving is what Jesus does best. The Lord loves you very much. “Between the passes, by which Jonathan sought to go over to the Philistines’ garrison, there was a sharp rock on one side and a sharp rock on the other side. And the name of one was Bozez, and the name of the other Seneh. The front of one faced northward opposite Michmash, and the other southward opposite Gibeah. Then Jonathan said to the young man who bore his armor, “Come, let us go over to the garrison of these uncircumcised; it may be that the LORD will work for us. For nothing restrains the LORD from saving by many or by few.” So his armorbearer said to him, “Do all that is in your heart. Go then; here I am with you, according to your heart.”” (I Samuel 14:4-7 NKJV) Grace exceeds the Law. The Old Covenant is like the stars at night that shine in the darkness. But when the sun rises, all the stars fade away. They are still there but they can't be seen because of the excelling glory of the sun. The sun is like the New Covenant - an ever-increasing splendor. Are you demand or supply-minded? Under the New Covenant, God is supplying you. Psalm 147:3-4 - We name some stars but science says that there are too many to count. God knows their number and calls all of them by name. Big as God is, He still cares for the broken-hearted and binds their wounds. How could Someone be so big and still care for man? People who are hurt, hurt people. God's priority is you - In the Book of Genesis, when the stars were created, only one line was devoted to that. When it comes to Abraham, thirteen chapters were devoted to him alone. “He heals the brokenhearted And binds up their wounds. He counts the number of the stars; He calls them all by name.” (Psalms 147:3-4 NKJV) I Samuel 17:45-47 - David's jealousy is for God to be known in Israel and that the Lord saves. To apply this today, it is referring to the church. God is with the church and He saves! “This day the LORD will deliver you into my hand, and I will strike you and take your head from you. And this day I will give the carcasses of the camp of the Philistines to the birds of the air and the wild beasts of the earth, that all the earth may know that there is a God in Israel. Then all this assembly shall know that the LORD does not save with sword and spear; for the battle is the LORD’s, and He will give you into our hands.”” (I Samuel 17:45-47 NKJV) Genesis 7:16 - The word "God" is "Elohim" which means the "Creator God" - He shut the animals in. "The Lord" is "Yahweh" which means the "Covenant-keeping God" - He shut Noah in. The Bible is very specific. It is the most specific book. “So those that entered, male and female of all flesh, went in as God had commanded him; and the LORD shut him in.” (Genesis 7:16 NKJV) Your spirit is quicker than your brain. Pray in the Spirit. You will know things about people by the Spirit faster than your brain can tell you. I Samuel 14:11-17 - The Philistines had contempt for Israel. Jonathan had personal faith but he was conscious of the greater good - Israel. God blesses us for the sake of His church. The church is the greatest organization in the universe! The calling of the church is higher than Israel. The calling of Israel is just in the world, while the calling of the church is heavenly. Whenever you compromise to get something of the world, you will ultimately lose and fall lower than the world. Never let the values of the world come into your family and into your mind. “So both of them showed themselves to the garrison of the Philistines. And the Philistines said, “Look, the Hebrews are coming out of the holes where they have hidden.” Then the men of the garrison called to Jonathan and his armorbearer, and said, “Come up to us, and we will show you something.” Jonathan said to his armorbearer, “Come up after me, for the LORD has delivered them into the hand of Israel.” And Jonathan climbed up on his hands and knees with his armorbearer after him; and they fell before Jonathan. And as he came after him, his armorbearer killed them. That first slaughter which Jonathan and his armorbearer made was about twenty men within about half an acre of land. And there was trembling in the camp, in the field, and among all the people. The garrison and the raiders also trembled; and the earth quaked, so that it was a very great trembling. Now the watchmen of Saul in Gibeah of Benjamin looked, and there was the multitude, melting away; and they went here and there. Then Saul said to the people who were with him, “Now call the roll and see who has gone from us.” And when they had called the roll, surprisingly, Jonathan and his armorbearer were not there.” (I Samuel 14:11-17 NKJV) I Corinthians 3:16 - You are the majority because God is with you! God is still with the church today. “Do you not know that you are the temple of God and that the Spirit of God dwells in you?” (I Corinthians 3:16 NKJV) When you take God out of the picture, you're left to your own devices - Nothing fits or makes sense anymore. Men professing themselves to be wise became fools. Everything that God gave to man was defiled. But what was given to Jesus is made better. You don't get warm first before going near the fire. The fire will provide you the warmth. Come to Jesus as you are and His goodness will lead you to repentance. Jesus came to the woman by the well in Samaria during the daytime. Nicodemus came to Jesus by night. Jesus told the woman that He is the Messiah. He didn't tell Nicodemus that. We need to know how to approach different people differently. We need to tell proud people that they need to be born again. The woman felt the warmth from Jesus and repented without knowing that she was doing it. Genesis 49:22 - On his deathbed, Jacob prophesied this over Joseph. ““Joseph is a fruitful bough, A fruitful bough by a well; His branches run over the wall.” (Genesis 49:22 NKJV) John 4:6 - Jesus is the fruitful bough that runs over the wall in Jacob's prophecy over Joseph. Even though He was tired, Jesus was still blessing. Jesus' blessing goes beyond human prejudices. “Now Jacob’s well was there. Jesus therefore, being wearied from His journey, sat thus by the well. It was about the sixth hour.” (John 4:6 NKJV) I Samuel 14:24-33 - Sin doesn't stop a revival from happening. If sin stops revival, then it wouldn't have begun in the first place because revival happens where there is sin. Revivals stop because of men like Saul who are very legalistic. They implement laws and rules upon God's people that God did not implement. What Saul did is stupid because the army was weak from not having any nourishment from food. “And the men of Israel were distressed that day, for Saul had placed the people under oath, saying, “Cursed is the man who eats any food until evening, before I have taken vengeance on my enemies.” So none of the people tasted food. Now all the people of the land came to a forest; and there was honey on the ground. And when the people had come into the woods, there was the honey, dripping; but no one put his hand to his mouth, for the people feared the oath. But Jonathan had not heard his father charge the people with the oath; therefore he stretched out the end of the rod that was in his hand and dipped it in a honeycomb, and put his hand to his mouth; and his countenance brightened. Then one of the people said, “Your father strictly charged the people with an oath, saying, ‘Cursed is the man who eats food this day.’ ” And the people were faint. But Jonathan said, “My father has troubled the land. Look now, how my countenance has brightened because I tasted a little of this honey. How much better if the people had eaten freely today of the spoil of their enemies which they found! For now would there not have been a much greater slaughter among the Philistines?” Now they had driven back the Philistines that day from Michmash to Aijalon. So the people were very faint. And the people rushed on the spoil, and took sheep, oxen, and calves, and slaughtered them on the ground; and the people ate them with the blood. Then they told Saul, saying, “Look, the people are sinning against the LORD by eating with the blood!” So he said, “You have dealt treacherously; roll a large stone to me this day.”” (I Samuel 14:24-33 NKJV) I Samuel 17:38-40 - David took five stones because he planned to kill Goliath and Goliath's four brothers as well. That's the faith he had in God. David declined to wear Saul's armor because he had to stay true to his anointing as a shepherd. He fought Goliath with a stone and his sling. Saul wanted David to wear his armor because he wanted to take some credit for the victory. Saul was the tallest man in Israel. If anyone was to match Goliath's height, it should have been Saul. “So Saul clothed David with his armor, and he put a bronze helmet on his head; he also clothed him with a coat of mail. David fastened his sword to his armor and tried to walk, for he had not tested them. And David said to Saul, “I cannot walk with these, for I have not tested them. ” So David took them off. Then he took his staff in his hand; and he chose for himself five smooth stones from the brook, and put them in a shepherd’s bag, in a pouch which he had, and his sling was in his hand. And he drew near to the Philistine.” (I Samuel 17:38-40 NKJV) Tell your children that the Lord saves. Victory is not without the butterflies. Victory is with the butterflies in the stomach and yet still stepping up to claim that victory. Salvation from the Lord is received when you are still - None of your own effort but all of the Lord.
