27 July 2014 - Pastor Joseph Prince Sermon Notes - New Creation Church Sermon Notes - Psalm 91 (Part 2)Psalm 91:16 - Psalm 91 ends with the name of Jesus (My salvation in Hebrew = Yeshua). "With long life will I satisfy him and show him My salvation." (Psalm 91:16 AMP) Job 5:19 - Sometimes, God allows you to get you into the trouble, and He will always deliver you from it, so that you will know its Him, and worship Him. "He will rescue you in six troubles; in seven nothing that is evil [for you] will touch you." (Job 5:19 AMP) Never expect to be delivered from persecution (Examples: people teasing you for your faith or family treating you differently because you're a Christian). The Bible promises that we will be persecuted. Dare to stand out like an eagle. Dare to be a diamond in the midst of stones. The world's words fall flat to the ground. Our words as believers have God's glory and weightiness in them. Don't seek trouble. Even Joseph and Mary were instructed to flee when Herod was searching for baby Jesus to be killed. Only God can put us in the right place and the right time. Psalm 91:3 - We will surely be delivered from the devil's traps. "For [then] He will deliver you from the snare of the fowler and from the deadly pestilence." (Psalm 91:3, AMP) Psalm 91:4 - God covers us closely from the front (shield) and all around (buckler). "[Then] He will cover you with His pinions, and under His wings shall you trust and find refuge; His truth and His faithfulness are a shield and a buckler." (Psalm 91:4 AMP) We are protected from all directions. Feathers (evra) and wings (kanaph) represent God's grace (hesed). We are covered by grace and truth. Deuteronomy 32:11 - wings (kanaph) and pinions (evra). "As an eagle that stirs up her nest, that flutters over her young, He spread abroad His wings and He took them, He bore them on His pinions. [Luke 13:34.]" (Deuteronomy 32:11 AMP) Exodus 19:3-4 - eagles' wings (kanaph). God is typified as an eagle that carried the Israelites through their trials by His grace. "And Moses went up to God, and the Lord called to him out of the mountain, Say this to the house of Jacob and tell the Israelites: You have seen what I did to the Egyptians, and how I bore you on eagles' wings and brought you to Myself." (Exodus 19:3-4 AMP) God is blessing us because He is faithful and good - not because we did anything to deserve it. In the center of the Holy of Holies, is God's grace/ mercy (the Mercy Seat of the Ark of the Covenant). God's grace is higher than the Law. (The Mercy Seat is placed above the Ten Commandments). If we go back to the Law as believers, we fall from grace. Accomplished redemption is the place of safety. Don't depend on outward things. Depend on The Lord. Be careful to keep it as a relationship between God and us , and not a new Law of our own. Psalm 91:1 - We are kept close to God and it's a relationship, not a ritual. (We are under His shadow). "HE WHO dwells in the secret place of the Most High shall remain stable and fixed under the shadow of the Almighty [Whose power no foe can withstand]." (Psalm 91:1 AMP) Matthew 23:37-39 - God will not force His love and salvation on you. He respects the free will that He gave you. Israel was not willing to come under Jesus's protection. "O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, murdering the prophets and stoning those who are sent to you! How often would I have gathered your children together as a mother fowl gathers her brood under her wings, and you refused! Behold, your house is forsaken and desolate (abandoned and left destitute of God's help). [I Kings 9:7; Jer. 22:5.] For I declare to you, you will not see Me again until you say, Blessed (magnified in worship, adored, and exalted) is He Who comes in the name of the Lord! [Ps. 118:26.]" (Matthew 23:37-39 AMP) We cannot judge a war by the number of casualties, but by the intent. Israel will not have peace until the Prince of peace returns for them. John 17:11-12 - We are protected through the name of our Heavenly Father, our Abba. "And [now] I am no more in the world, but these are [still] in the world, and I am coming to You. Holy Father, keep in Your Name [in the knowledge of Yourself] those whom You have given Me, that they may be one as We [are one]. While I was with them, I kept and preserved them in Your Name [in the knowledge and worship of You]. Those You have given Me I guarded and protected, and not one of them has perished or is lost except the son of perdition [Judas Iscariot–the one who is now doomed to destruction, destined to be lost], that the Scripture might be fulfilled. [Ps. 41:9; John 6:70.]" (John 17:11-12 AMP) We don't have to be eloquent. We only need to come to God as a confiding child trusting in his earthly father. John 17:15-16, 20 - We are not brought out of the world, but we are kept from evil by the Father. This prayer addresses believers today too. "I do not ask that You will take them out of the world, but that You will keep and protect them from the evil one. They are not of the world (worldly, belonging to the world), [just] as I am not of the world. Neither for these alone do I pray [it is not for their sake only that I make this request], but also for all those who will ever come to believe in (trust in, cling to, rely on) Me through their word and teaching," (John 17:15-16, 20 AMP) John 17:25-26 - The more we say "Father", the more we experience the love that our Heavenly Father has towards Jesus. "O just and righteous Father, although the world has not known You and has failed to recognize You and has never acknowledged You, I have known You [continually]; and these men understand and know that You have sent Me. I have made Your Name known to them and revealed Your character and Your very Self, and I will continue to make [You] known, that the love which You have bestowed upon Me may be in them [felt in their hearts] and that I [Myself] may be in them." (John 17:25, 26 AMP) Genesis 22:1-2 - First mention of love. It is a love of a father towards his son. "AFTER THESE events, God tested and proved Abraham and said to him, Abraham! And he said, Here I am. [God] said, Take now your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the region of Moriah; and offer him there as a burnt offering upon one of the mountains of which I will tell you." (Genesis 22:1-2 AMP) Genesis 22:6-8 - "the two of them went together" - when Jesus was carrying to cross towards Calvary, the Father went together with Him. The Father suffered grief the whole way with His Son. "Then Abraham took the wood for the burnt offering and laid it on [the shoulders of] Isaac his son, and he took the fire (the firepot) in his own hand, and a knife; and the two of them went on together. And Isaac said to Abraham, My father! And he said, Here I am, my son. [Isaac] said, See, here are the fire and the wood, but where is the lamb for the burnt sacrifice? Abraham said, My son, God Himself will provide a lamb for the burnt offering. So the two went on together." (Genesis 22:6-8 AMP) The Angel of The Lord is Jesus's incarnate in the Old Testament. You will never know how much God loves you until you know how much God loves Jesus, because He gave Jesus up for our sake. Genesis 22:13 - "thicket" - inter-woven vines, like the crown of thorns that Jesus wore at the cross. The ram was caught by his horns because he had to be unblemished. If he was caught on his flesh, he would have bled and become an imperfect sacrifice. "Then Abraham looked up and glanced around, and behold, behind him was a ram caught in a thicket by his horns. And Abraham went and took the ram and offered it up for a burnt offering and an ascending sacrifice instead of his son!" (Genesis 22:13 AMP) Genesis 22:19-20 - The church comes after the cross. After the cross, the attention is on the church - the bride of Jesus. "So Abraham returned to his servants, and they rose up and went with him to Beersheba; there Abraham lived. Now after these things, it was told Abraham, Milcah has also borne children to your brother Nahor:" (Genesis 22:19-20 AMP) ![]()
The heartbreak that Abraham felt foreshadows the much greater grief and pain that our Heavenly Father Himself suffered when He saw His only begotten Son, Jesus Christ, hanging on the cross having become sin itself, bleeding and giving up His life for our sins. Our salvation was bought at a high cost!
