When believers gather together for church, something good will happen.

There is a place in Israel called Bethel. Bethel means “House of God”. The first mention of Bethel is when Jacob was there.

When God gave Abraham the promise of a child, there was also evidence contrary to the promise. Abraham and Sarah were both barren.

Genesis 25:20-21 - Isaac is Abraham’s direct descendant. Abraham and Sarah were once barren. Now Rebekah was also barren.
When Isaac saw evidence contrary to the promise again (he knew about his parents' struggle in conceiving him) in his life, he pleaded to God - he stood on the promise of God.
The Bible says that all the promises of God in Christ are Yes and Amen.
Keep on pressing in and don’t give up.

“Isaac was forty years old when he took Rebekah as wife, the daughter of Bethuel the Syrian of Padan Aram, the sister of Laban the Syrian. Now Isaac pleaded with the LORD for his wife, because she was barren; and the LORD granted his plea, and Rebekah his wife conceived.” (Genesis 25:20-21 NKJV)

Genesis 25:24-26 - God gave the once-barren Rebekah twins. When God answers your prayer, He oversupplies.
He gives you above all that you can think or imagine.
Esau means hairy. Jacob means supplanter (because he grabbed his brother’s heel).
Isaac waited 20 years for God’s promise to come to pass. He was probably discouraged, but he held on and believed God.

“So when her days were fulfilled for her to give birth, indeed there were twins in her womb. And the first came out red. He was like a hairy garment all over; so they called his name Esau. Afterward his brother came out, and his hand took hold of Esau’s heel; so his name was called Jacob. Isaac was sixty years old when she bore them.” (Genesis 25:24-26 NKJV)

You are as young as you think you are in Christ. Start leaning in and taking hold of the promises of God.
Don’t go by the natural and what you see. Believe what’s in God’s word.

There was a problem. Isaac loved Esau because Esau was good at hunting game. Whereas Rebekah loved Jacob more.

Rebekah came up with a scheme to trick her own husband to give Jacob the firstborn blessing instead of to Esau.

Esau vowed to kill Jacob for stealing the firstborn blessing, after Isaac his father dies.
Rebekah overheard Esau saying this and secretly told Jacob to run away and return only when Esau’s anger had subsided. That is how Jacob arrives at Bethel.

Jacob poured oil on the pillar that he set up at Bethel. Oil represents the anointing of God. The Anointing is found in the House of God.

Genesis 28:10-22 - “your seed” in the passage below refers to Jesus. Through Jesus, we are all blessed.
God is with you and will not leave you until He has done what He has spoken to you.
Bethel which means “House of God” is first mentioned in the Bible in this passage .
The first mention of oil is also here. Oil speaks of anointing.
How do we get oil? From crushing olives.
The Garden of Gethsemane - Gethsemane means “olive press”. Jesus was crushed there for our anointing.
Oil is also used for sanctifying. The opposite of holiness is not sin. It is commonness.
The anointing breaks yokes and bondages. The anointing oil is found in the house of God.
Just as God was faithful to Jacob, God will also be faithful to you.
Jacob mentioned tithing here. Tithing is a response to God’s faithfulness in your life.
You don’t tithe for God to bless you. You tithe because God has blessed you. It takes revelation. We won’t be cursed if we don’t tithe.
Tithe to the local church.

“Now Jacob went out from Beersheba and went toward Haran. So he came to a certain place and stayed there all night, because the sun had set. And he took one of the stones of that place and put it at his head, and he lay down in that place to sleep. Then he dreamed, and behold, a ladder was set up on the earth, and its top reached to heaven; and there the angels of God were ascending and descending on it. And behold, the LORD stood above it and said: “I am the LORD God of Abraham your father and the God of Isaac; the land on which you lie I will give to you and your descendants. Also your descendants shall be as the dust of the earth; you shall spread abroad to the west and the east, to the north and the south; and in you and in your seed all the families of the earth shall be blessed. Behold, I am with you and will keep you wherever you go, and will bring you back to this land; for I will not leave you until I have done what I have spoken to you.” Then Jacob awoke from his sleep and said, “Surely the LORD is in this place, and I did not know it. ” And he was afraid and said, “How awesome is this place! This is none other than the house of God, and this is the gate of heaven!” Then Jacob rose early in the morning, and took the stone that he had put at his head, set it up as a pillar, and poured oil on top of it. And he called the name of that place Bethel; but the name of that city had been Luz previously. Then Jacob made a vow, saying, “If God will be with me, and keep me in this way that I am going, and give me bread to eat and clothing to put on, so that I come back to my father’s house in peace, then the LORD shall be my God. And this stone which I have set as a pillar shall be God’s house, and of all that You give me I will surely give a tenth to You.”” (Genesis 28:10-22 NKJV)

I Timothy 3:15 - The house of God is the church.

“but if I am delayed, I write so that you may know how you ought to conduct yourself in the house of God, which is the church of the living God, the pillar and ground of the truth.” (I Timothy 3:15 NKJV)

Hebrews 10:24-25 - When we come together as a church whether on Sundays or for cell group, etc, something good happens.

“And let us consider one another in order to stir up love and good works, not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as is the manner of some, but exhorting one another, and so much the more as you see the Day approaching.” (Hebrews 10:24-25 NKJV)

John 1:51 - “Jacob’s ladder” speaks of the cross. Through the cross, God’s blessings can come upon us today.

“And He said to him, “Most assuredly, I say to you, hereafter you shall see heaven open, and the angels of God ascending and descending upon the Son of Man.”” (John 1:51 NKJV)

The Power of Divine Friendships in the House of God

The church is about divine friendships. The first friendship is between us and God. Secondly, friendships between believers.
The Christian life is not meant to be lived alone.

The only organisation that has power over the forces of darkness in this world is the church of Jesus Christ.
When believers gather together, God’s power is at work.

Ecclesiastes 10:10 - If an ax is dull, it is useless. Have you lost your cutting edge? There's a way to get it back.

“If the ax is dull, And one does not sharpen the edge, Then he must use more strength; But wisdom brings success.” (Ecclesiastes 10:10 NKJV)

Proverbs 27:17 - Pray for each other. Encourage each other. That's how we sharpen each other.
Church is meant to be a community. The gifts of the Holy Spirit work more often when we’re in a community.

“As iron sharpens iron, So a man sharpens the countenance of his friend.” (Proverbs 27:17 NKJV)

Proverbs 13:20 - The choice of the people we walk with in our lives is important.

“He who walks with wise men will be wise, But the companion of fools will be destroyed.” (Proverbs 13:20 NKJV)

I Corinthians 15:33 - The people you spend time with are important. Don’t spend time with toxic people who will corrupt you.

“Do not be deceived: “Evil company corrupts good habits.”” (I Corinthians 15:33 NKJV)

Men have a tendency to bottle their problems and struggles up because of pride. They don't want to show that something's wrong in their lives.
There are no perfect people in the church. Let's all be real with each other so that we can pray for each other.

Take a step of faith this year. Make Godly friendships in church.

Pastor Lawrence showed us a screenshot of a satellite map. The name of Jesus “Yahweh” (in Hebrew: yud hei vav hei) is etched in the mountain/hill range at where Bethel is.

Psalm 88:6-9 - Everyone deserted Jesus. He went through all that loneliness so that we could become God’s friend and be surrounded by men and women of God who can walk through this life with us.

“You have laid me in the lowest pit, In darkness, in the depths. Your wrath lies heavy upon me, And You have afflicted me with all Your waves. Selah You have put away my acquaintances far from me; You have made me an abomination to them; I am shut up, and I cannot get out; My eye wastes away because of affliction. LORD, I have called daily upon You; I have stretched out my hands to You.” (Psalms 88:6-9 NKJV)

John 15:13 - We are Jesus’ friends. His love for us is unimaginable.

“Greater love has no one than this, than to lay down one’s life for his friends.” (John 15:13 NKJV)

Thank you for your studies and sharing. Please pray for myself and my daughter who I am staying with due to a fire in my house. We are having major conflict and I need a place of my own and fellow believers to help pray for my strength,financial blessing's,and most of all my able ness not to get sucked in to the devil's traps. Thank you so much. I am looking for a local church to attend but have not found one yet...
