13 September 2015 - Pastor Joseph Prince Sermon Notes Online - New Creation Church Sermon Notes Online - Are There Commandments Under Grace?Romans 13:1 - Now that it's after the Singapore elections, trust that whatever result is God's will. It's time to pray for your leaders of Singapore and stop complaining. “Let every soul be subject to the governing authorities. For there is no authority except from God, and the authorities that exist are appointed by God.” (Romans 13:1 NKJV) God is the only one who can govern the affairs of the nations. We are about to enter an era where there will be a revived Roman Empire - a United States of Europe. God choice was David, not Saul. God promised that David's throne would be forever. God wants the whole world to be blessed, not just Israel. King Solomon is still the richest man that ever lived. He built the most expensive Temple of God that ever existed. The children of Israel strayed from the Lord. They worshiped Molech, and sacrificed their babies to the flaming arms of the idol of Molech. Their babies would roll into the red-hot fiery cauldron. We're waiting for the kingdom that is not built by human hands that will destroy all other kingdoms - the kingdom of our Lord Jesus Christ. In a marriage, the man being the head does not mean tyranny or bossism. He's the facilitator and the leader. He's the one accountable before God for the family. Men and women are in equal standing before God, with different roles. Women are more intuitive and men are more logical. Romans 2:12-16 - Pastor Joseph Prince shared a story about how a missionary preached to a tribal leader and realized that he knows the Ten Commandments in a rephrased manner. The Law is written in man's conscience. God will judge the men who did not know the Ten Commandments by their conscience. “For as many as have sinned without law will also perish without law, and as many as have sinned in the law will be judged by the law (for not the hearers of the law are just in the sight of God, but the doers of the law will be justified; for when Gentiles, who do not have the law, by nature do the things in the law, these, although not having the law, are a law to themselves, who show the work of the law written in their hearts, their conscience also bearing witness, and between themselves their thoughts accusing or else excusing them ) in the day when God will judge the secrets of men by Jesus Christ, according to my gospel.” (Romans 2:12-16 NKJV) The Law was not given as God's main agenda. God's main agenda is to have a relationship with man with grace. Romans 5:20 - God gave man the Law to give them the knowledge of sin by, not so that they could obey it perfectly. The Law brings out man's sin. “Moreover the law entered that the offense might abound. But where sin abounded, grace abounded much more,” (Romans 5:20 NKJV) Galatians 3:19 - As long as there is a law, there is a transgression. Without a law, there is no transgression. The Law was added to make man's sin a transgression. The Law's purpose is to show how sinful we are. “What purpose then does the law serve? It was added because of transgressions, till the Seed should come to whom the promise was made; and it was appointed through angels by the hand of a mediator.” (Galatians 3:19 NKJV) Romans 6:14 - If you are under the Law, sin has dominion over you. If you are under grace, sin shall NOT have dominion over you! “For sin shall not have dominion over you, for you are not under law but under grace.” (Romans 6:14 NKJV) Those who preach grace have great respect for God's Law. Those who preach the Law at a manageable level that can be kept by man don't respect the holiness and the perfection of the Law. Galatians 3:24-25 - The Law is for those who are not spiritually-mature. We are now justified by faith through Christ, and we are no longer under the Law. “Therefore the law was our tutor to bring us to Christ, that we might be justified by faith. But after faith has come, we are no longer under a tutor.” (Galatians 3:24-25 NKJV) Pastor Joseph Prince was oppressed by thoughts in his youth that made him believe that he had committed the "unpardonable sin" of blaspheming the Holy Spirit. An elder in his church told him that it was possibly for a Christian to commit the unpardonable sin. He was afraid to go to God because he was afraid that God would take his life away and that he would end up in hell. Pastor Prince was sincerely wanting to be holy and be right with God, but was led into bondage and a close call with insanity instead. This is what wrong believing produces. A testimony - A man was in a relationship for 5 years that he knew was wrong. He ended the relationship but the guilt still hung over him. After hearing Pastor Prince preach that all our sins past, present and future are forgiven, he felt the burden of condemnation lift from his heart. He partook of the holy communion daily. He then got married to a lady that he went to New Creation Church with. God gave him favor in his job. By being obedient and believing right, God is now a friend and not a discipline master. What he has given up, God has really restored to him 120 percent! John 13:34-35 -This is a new commandment given by Jesus, not rehashing from the Ten Commandments. It is a pity that nowadays we see Christians fighting one another instead of rallying around Jesus and loving one another. “A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another; as I have loved you, that you also love one another. By this all will know that you are My disciples, if you have love for one another.”" (John 13:34-35 NKJV) Matthew 22:34-40 - Doing our best is not enough to keep the Law. In a judicial court, you are judged by your actions. Your motives are subsidiary. “But when the Pharisees heard that He had silenced the Sadducees, they gathered together. Then one of them, a lawyer, asked Him a question, testing Him, and saying, “Teacher, which is the great commandment in the law?” Jesus said to him, “ ‘You shall love the LORD your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind.’ This is the first and great commandment. And the second is like it: ‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself.’ On these two commandments hang all the Law and the Prophets.”” (Matthew 22:34-40 NKJV) The Ten Commandments were given to Moses on Mount Sinai in the form of two tablets. The first tablet is God saying "Love me with all your heart". The second tablet is God saying "Love your neighbors as yourself". I John 3:20-23 - To keep God's commandments does not mean to keep the Ten Commandments. God's commandment is that we should believe on the name of Jesus and love one another! We can love God and one another because He first loved us. God unveils the love of God through anointed ministers so that we can be empowered to love one another. “For if our heart condemns us, God is greater than our heart, and knows all things. Beloved, if our heart does not condemn us, we have confidence toward God. And whatever we ask we receive from Him, because we keep His commandments and do those things that are pleasing in His sight. And this is His commandment: that we should believe on the name of His Son Jesus Christ and love one another, as He gave us commandment.” (I John 3:20-23 NKJV) God loves you more than you know. The value of a thing is revealed by the price which one is willing to pay. Jesus is God's beloved Son. He gave Jesus up on the cross for us. That's how much God loves us! Isaiah 52:14 - On the cross, Jesus was a grotesque sight. He was beaten severely and all the diseases and uncleanness of the world was placed upon Him. That's how much God loves you - He allowed His beloved Son to go through all that for you. “Just as many were astonished at you, So His visage was marred more than any man, And His form more than the sons of men;” (Isaiah 52:14 NKJV) I John 4:10-11 - Love is not about us loving God, but that He loved us. “In this is love, not that we loved God, but that He loved us and sent His Son to be the propitiation for our sins. Beloved, if God so loved us, we also ought to love one another.” (I John 4:10-11 NKJV) Ephesians 5:25 - When it says husbands love your wives, it means go down, humble yourselves and let down your pride. That's what love means. “Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ also loved the church and gave Himself for her,” (Ephesians 5:25 NKJV) I John 3:10-12 - Cain's works before he murdered his brother were evil. The first murder was over "approach to God". What does it mean to "practice righteousness"? “In this the children of God and the children of the devil are manifest: Whoever does not practice righteousness is not of God, nor is he who does not love his brother. For this is the message that you heard from the beginning, that we should love one another, not as Cain who was of the wicked one and murdered his brother. And why did he murder him? Because his works were evil and his brother’s righteous.” (I John 3:10-12 NKJV) God was the first one to kill an animal, and He did that to cover Adam and Eve's sins. Due to Adam and Eve's sin, the earth was cursed to bear thorns. Jesus wore the crown of thorns to redeem us from the curse. Genesis 4:1-8 - This is the explanation of what it means to practice righteousness: Cain brought the work of his efforts. Abel did not trust in his efforts - he brought a lamb - which represents bringing a sacrificial offering. When innocent blood is shed, it provides a covering for the guilty - the sins of the guilty party is transferred to the innocent lamb, and the righteousness of the lamb is transferred to the guilty party - this act of sacrifice and transfer of righteousness is pointing to the Lamb of God, Jesus, who takes away the sins of the world. There was no blood being shed on Cain's part, and God called it evil. God came to Cain and talked to him even when Cain was angry. We don't need to go for a course on "How to Hear God's Voice" to hear God speak to us! "Doing well" means relying on God's righteousness, and not on self-righteousness. A sin offering (a lamb) was crouching at the door, near to Cain. The word of faith is near you even in your mouth and in your heart. It is easy to be saved! If you trust in God's righteousness, you will end up loving. If you trust in your own righteousness and self-efforts, it produces jealousy, anger and evil. “Now Adam knew Eve his wife, and she conceived and bore Cain, and said, “I have acquired a man from the LORD.” Then she bore again, this time his brother Abel. Now Abel was a keeper of sheep, but Cain was a tiller of the ground. And in the process of time it came to pass that Cain brought an offering of the fruit of the ground to the LORD. Abel also brought of the firstborn of his flock and of their fat. And the LORD respected Abel and his offering, but He did not respect Cain and his offering. And Cain was very angry, and his countenance fell. So the LORD said to Cain, “Why are you angry? And why has your countenance fallen? If you do well, will you not be accepted? And if you do not do well, sin lies at the door. And its desire is for you, but you should rule over it.” Now Cain talked with Abel his brother; and it came to pass, when they were in the field, that Cain rose up against Abel his brother and killed him.” (Genesis 4:1-8 NKJV) John called himself the "Disciple Whom Jesus Loved". He depended on Jesus' love for him. He was the only disciple left standing at the foot of the cross, and Jesus entrusted the care of His mother to John. I Corinthians 13:4 - Husbands, be patient with your wives. The first few words to describe love is that love "suffers long and is kind". “Love suffers long and is kind; love does not envy; love does not parade itself, is not puffed up;” (I Corinthians 13:4 NKJV)
This is the explanation of what it means to practice righteousness: Cain brought the work of his efforts.
