28 September 2014 - Pastor Joseph Prince Sermon Notes - New Creation Church Sermon Notes - The Law Demands, Grace Supplies!God still heals today. The cross is God's instrument of redemption for mankind. When you boast in your works, God will always give you The Law, and there will always be one thing you lack. The Law was designed to reveal your inadequacy. The goodness of God leads people to repentance. Contrast of the rich young ruler in Luke 18 and Zacchaeus in Luke 19 - The Law cannot lead man to repentance, only grace does. Romans 6:14 - We reign over sin through grace, and not by keeping The Law. "For sin shall not have dominion over you, for you are not under law but under grace." (Romans 6:14 NKJV) 1 Corinthians 15:56 - The Law is the strength of sin. Those who preach grace preach freedom from the strength of sin. "The sting of death is sin, and the strength of sin is the law." (I Corinthians 15:56 NKJV) Poverty is evil. Money is not the root of all evil - the LOVE of money is the root of all evil. Romans 7:1-13 - Many think that God gave The Law for man to keep. God gave The Law at Mount Sinai, but before that, the Israelites were under grace from Egypt to Sinai. We are cut off from sin when we are in Christ. "Or do you not know, brethren (for I speak to those who know the law), that the law has dominion over a man as long as he lives? For the woman who has a husband is bound by the law to her husband as long as he lives. But if the husband dies, she is released from the law of her husband. So then if, while her husband lives, she marries another man, she will be called an adulteress; but if her husband dies, she is free from that law, so that she is no adulteress, though she has married another man. Therefore, my brethren, you also have become dead to the law through the body of Christ, that you may be married to another—to Him who was raised from the dead, that we should bear fruit to God. For when we were in the flesh, the sinful passions which were aroused by the law were at work in our members to bear fruit to death. But now we have been delivered from the law, having died to what we were held by, so that we should serve in the newness of the Spirit and not in the oldness of the letter. What shall we say then? Is the law sin? Certainly not! On the contrary, I would not have known sin except through the law. For I would not have known covetousness unless the law had said, “You shall not covet.” But sin, taking opportunity by the commandment, produced in me all manner of evil desire. For apart from the law sin was dead. I was alive once without the law, but when the commandment came, sin revived and I died. And the commandment, which was to bring life, I found to bring death. For sin, taking occasion by the commandment, deceived me, and by it killed me. Therefore the law is holy, and the commandment holy and just and good. Has then what is good become death to me? Certainly not! But sin, that it might appear sin, was producing death in me through what is good, so that sin through the commandment might become exceedingly sinful." (Romans 7:1-13 NKJV) God shielded the Israelites by day from the hot sun in the day and provided warmth from the cold at night. God fought for them and protected them even though they murmured and complained about their situation all the time. It was also a period of grace where God was good to them because He is good, not because they earned His goodness! We might forget God, but He never forget about us. He loves us with an everlasting love. This year is the Year of Shemitah (Rest). Murmuring (Complaining) is a sin. The Law was designed to bring man to the end of himself. God is not interested in outward modification (without true repentance), but He is interested in heart transformation. God saves us based on His goodness, not our goodness. The difference between good works and dead works - Good works are produced from knowing our right standing with God. Dead works are works done to try to get right with God. 2 Corinthians 3:6-9 - The ministry of The Law is called the ministry of DEATH. "who also made us sufficient as ministers of the new covenant, not of the letter but of the Spirit; for the letter kills, but the Spirit gives life. But if the ministry of death, written and engraved on stones, was glorious, so that the children of Israel could not look steadily at the face of Moses because of the glory of his countenance, which glory was passing away, how will the ministry of the Spirit not be more glorious? For if the ministry of condemnation had glory, the ministry of righteousness exceeds much more in glory." (II Corinthians 3:6-9 NKJV) We should be exceedingly blessed above what the world is experiencing. We are under Law if we are self-occupied, and we are under grace if we are Christ-occupied. The Law demands, grace supplies. In the New Covenant, God is pleased when we rest in the finished work of Jesus Christ. Wine is okay to drink, just do not get drunk. Wine is like money, be careful how you use it. The Law is perfect and inflexible. It cannot bend itself to help sinful man. It has no ability to produce holiness in man. Under Law, sin is contagious. Under grace, life, health and blessings are contagious. Are you demand-conscious or supply-conscious? In and of ourselves, we are weak and poor. But we are married to Jesus who is strong and rich, glorified and perfect. When we pray in Jesus's name, we are going in His authority. The flesh is still the flesh even after we have been saved - it is a sin principle. This will remain until Jesus comes again and our bodies are transformed. The flesh is not the identity of a believer. Our spirits are a new creation in Christ. Parenting must be grace-based. Roman 7:6 - Obey the prompting of the Holy Spirit, not The Law. "But now we have been delivered from the law, having died to what we were held by, so that we should serve in the newness of the Spirit and not in the oldness of the letter." (Romans 7:6 NKJV) The Holy Spirit teaches us what and how to pray. The Christian life is a life of rest. Don't think that resting means that you're idle. When you work, God rests. When you rest, God works for you. Jesus's death at the cross is the love of God paying ransom to the justice of God.
