29 March 2015 - Pastor Joseph Prince Sermon Notes Online - New Creation Church Sermon Notes Online - Speak Words of Edification and Impart GraceIf you want to be a great leader, be the servant of all the people that you lead. God puts you in a place of prominence so that you can serve the masses with the gifts that you have received from Him. Church is a place of worship, not of entertainment, business, etc. Everything rises and falls based on leadership. All fathers are the kings, priests and prophets of their households. Even if they don't say anything, they are still exercising their leadership. The fall of humanity happened because the king, priest and prophet, Adam, did not say anything when Satan was speaking to Eve. He abdicated his place of leadership. Money given to your parents is a gesture of your love. Ephesians 4:29-30 - Keep our mouths from profanities. Profanity means "words that are non-useful". Telling people what they deserve is not imparting grace to them. Edification means "to build up someone". Whatever is edifying imparts grace. Grace means undeserved favor. God gives grace on the solid foundation of the death of His Son, so that He may give grace freely to all believers. We are saved forever, and the Holy Spirit will not leave us. The Holy Spirit and Jesus are one. Grieve is "sulio" in Greek. If your words are giving people what they deserve, you are grieving the Holy Spirit. If your words are full of grace, you are delighting the Holy Spirit. "Let no corrupt word proceed out of your mouth, but what is good for necessary edification, that it may impart grace to the hearers. And do not grieve the Holy Spirit of God, by whom you were sealed for the day of redemption." (Ephesians 4:29-30 NKJV) All Spirit, no Word, you blow up. All Word, no Spirit, you dry up. All Word, all Spirit, you grow up!
The backdrop to this sermon is that on that same Sunday, the State Funeral for Mr Lee Kuan Yew, our Late Minister Mentor of Singapore, and Singapore's Founding Father, was held, and Singapore was in mourning. Pastor Joseph Prince spoke about the great leadership that Mr Lee displayed during his lifetime. Pastor Prince highlighted that Mr Lee never had any scandal with other women despite his position of power, and that his devotion to his wife is worthy of respect. Pastor Prince referred to Mr Lee as a "leader of leaders" and shared his belief that Mr Lee was chosen and anointed by God to lead Singapore, and that he is now forever entwined with his wife which he loved in life, in eternity.
Mark 3:1-6 - The Pharisees knew that Jesus could heal. God finds the overt sins easier to deal with than sins of self-righteousness. This is the first instance of Jesus being angry. Jesus was grieved by the hardness of the Pharisees hearts because they could not respond to God's grace. It showed at lack of grace in the Pharisees. "And He entered the synagogue again, and a man was there who had a withered hand. So they watched Him closely, whether He would heal him on the Sabbath, so that they might accuse Him. And He said to the man who had the withered hand, “Step forward.” Then He said to them, “Is it lawful on the Sabbath to do good or to do evil, to save life or to kill?” But they kept silent. And when He had looked around at them with anger, being grieved by the hardness of their hearts, He said to the man, “Stretch out your hand.” And he stretched it out, and his hand was restored as whole as the other. Then the Pharisees went out and immediately plotted with the Herodians against Him, how they might destroy Him." (Mark 3:1-6 NKJV) God is full of mercy, not full of anger. Matthew 21:31 - The more you realise how undeserving you are, the easier it is to believe and to receive grace. "Which of the two did the will of his father?” They said to Him, “The first.” Jesus said to them, “Assuredly, I say to you that tax collectors and harlots enter the kingdom of God before you." (Matthew 21:31 NKJV) Jesus rose from the dead at the end of a Sabbath. Resting on the Sabbath is a picture of the old, and worshipping on Sunday is a picture of the new beginning after Jesus rose from the dead. 1 Corinthians 14:4 - When you pray in tongues, you are building yourself up, physically, mentally, spiritually. At the same time because you are edifying yourself, grace is being imparted to you. "He who speaks in a tongue edifies himself, but he who prophesies edifies the church." (I Corinthians 14:4 NKJV) You can always tell the power of a truth by seeing how much opposition the devil levels against it. The world asks "Is this worth dying for?". Instead we should ask "Is this worth Jesus dying for?" God is more patient than any of us realise, and if there is a delay, God is working on us. He shows up with a miracle at His perfect timing. Before Jesus even performed one miracle, God told Jesus when He was being baptized in the Jordan River that He is God's beloved Son and that in Him God is well pleased. To empower our children, speak edification and impart grace to them. In the lowest places and moments of your children's life, affirm them. Tell them that they are your beloved, and that you love them. Jesus preached repentance, but it wasn't a qualifier for sinners to receive grace from Him.
Before Jesus even performed one miracle, God told Jesus when He was being baptized in the Jordan River, "You are My beloved Son, in You I am well-pleased.". After that, Jesus went into the wilderness and withstood all of Satan's temptations in the wilderness. To empower our children, speak edification and impart grace to them.
Matthew 11:16-30 - Playing the flute represents the ministry of Jesus - grace. The mourning represents the ministry of John - the Law. It means that the people neither responded to the Law nor grace. Tyre and Sidon are modern-day Lebanon. Chorazin and Bethsaida rejected grace. Once you receive grace, make sure you embrace it and not reject it, if not you'll be in the worst place. To reach the people who are like the people of Sodom, pray for them so that the mighty works of God can lead them into repentance. When you come to Jesus, you don't have to learn how to rest. He will rest you. "“But to what shall I liken this generation? It is like children sitting in the marketplaces and calling to their companions, and saying: ‘We played the flute for you, And you did not dance; We mourned to you, And you did not lament.’ For John came neither eating nor drinking, and they say, ‘He has a demon.’ The Son of Man came eating and drinking, and they say, ‘Look, a glutton and a winebibber, a friend of tax collectors and sinners!’ But wisdom is justified by her children.” Then He began to rebuke the cities in which most of His mighty works had been done, because they did not repent: “Woe to you, Chorazin! Woe to you, Bethsaida! For if the mighty works which were done in you had been done in Tyre and Sidon, they would have repented long ago in sackcloth and ashes. But I say to you, it will be more tolerable for Tyre and Sidon in the day of judgment than for you. And you, Capernaum, who are exalted to heaven, will be brought down to Hades; for if the mighty works which were done in you had been done in Sodom, it would have remained until this day. But I say to you that it shall be more tolerable for the land of Sodom in the day of judgment than for you.” At that time Jesus answered and said, “I thank You, Father, Lord of heaven and earth, that You have hidden these things from the wise and prudent and have revealed them to babes. Even so, Father, for so it seemed good in Your sight. All things have been delivered to Me by My Father, and no one knows the Son except the Father. Nor does anyone know the Father except the Son, and the one to whom the Son wills to reveal Him. Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For My yoke is easy and My burden is light.”" (Matthew 11:16-30 NKJV) Ephesians 4:31-32 - Paul words are of the present-day, exalted Christ. Now we forgive because God has forgiven us. Unforgiveness is one of the biggest problems in the body of Christ, and it can be tackled by preaching on the forgiveness of God. "Let all bitterness, wrath, anger, clamor, and evil speaking be put away from you, with all malice. And be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, even as God in Christ forgave you." (Ephesians 4:31-32 NKJV) Ephesians 5:1 - Children will imitate their parents when they know they are dearly loved. When we know we are dearly loved by God, we will imitate Him. "Follow God’s example, therefore, as dearly loved children" (Ephesians 5:1 NIV) "THEREFORE BE imitators of God [copy Him and follow His example], as well-beloved children [imitate their father]." (Ephesians 5:1 AMP) God sent His Son so that His justice may be appeased and it has already been appeased. When we come to Him in the name of His Son, His feelings for His Son are imputed to us.
