3 April 2016 - The Right Way To Fear The Lord - Pastor Joseph Prince Sermon Notes Online - New Creation Church Sermon Notes OnlineWe tend to dislike in people what we see in ourselves. In a relationship or marriage, when the man gives a choice to the woman, and if she makes a mistake, it is the man's mistake. Learn scripture verses and put them in your memory. Let the sword of the Spirit and you become one. When Jesus was being tempted by the devil in the wilderness, Jesus quoted the scripture as it is, and He didn't personalize it. If Jesus answered the devil with "it is written...", how can we think to fight the devil with logic and reasoning? There's power in speaking the Bible verses as they are. Say "It is written..." and quote the verse that corresponds to your situation or need. II Timothy 4:18 - The Lord will deliver you from EVERY evil work. God wants your life blessed, and there is a laser-sharp word of God for every situation. “And the Lord will deliver me from every evil work and preserve me for His heavenly kingdom. To Him be glory forever and ever. Amen!” (II Timothy 4:18 NKJV) When it's impossible with man, it's possible with God. God doesn't help those who help themselves. That statement is not from the Bible! God helps those who are helpless. The 15 songs of Psalms 120 - 134 are known as the Songs of Degrees/Ascents. With each song, you go higher. God brings you higher and higher. 15 is the number of rest. You will come to a place of victory. Psalm 128:1-6 - Psalm 128 is one of the Songs of Degrees/Ascents. When you eat you will be happy. Your wife will not dry up. She will be like a fruitful vine. God created us to laugh. Your children are anointed. Your children are like olive plants. Olive oil is used for medicine, cleansing, and holy purposes. These verses are a faith picture for you to show you God's promises for your family in the future. This is a picture of a prosperous and blessed household. When the man is blessed, his whole household - his wife and his children are blessed. The wife is not the leader, the man is the leader. You will see your children's children - that's a promise of long life! In the Old Testament, there is not one characteristic that causes someone to be more blessed than having the fear of the Lord. “Blessed is every one who fears the LORD, Who walks in His ways. When you eat the labor of your hands, You shall be happy, and it shall be well with you. Your wife shall be like a fruitful vine In the very heart of your house, Your children like olive plants All around your table. Behold, thus shall the man be blessed Who fears the LORD. The LORD bless you out of Zion, And may you see the good of Jerusalem All the days of your life. Yes, may you see your children’s children. Peace be upon Israel!” (Psalms 128:1-6 NKJV) When you have to resort to sexual innuendos to get people to laugh, that's the lowest level of humor. Just like olives, in the garden of "Gethsemane" (the word means olive press) Jesus was first pressed in the darkness to bring us into the light. The second stage, Jesus was beaten, it is for our medicine - by His stripes we are healed. The third stage, Jesus' death cleansed us of our sins. It is better for the devil not to attack you, because when he attacks you and you know how to counter-attack, you will get spoils. Don't sit down looking spoiled, look at the spoils of war! With an attack comes the law of restoration/ compensation. God doesn't justify people who are blameless. God justifies the ungodly. For grace to be grace, it has to be unmerited. Psalms 130:3-4 - If God marked each of our sins every time we sin, who could stand? Knowing the forgiveness of our sins accomplished by Jesus at the cross causes us to correctly fear the Lord. “If You, LORD, should mark iniquities, O Lord, who could stand? But there is forgiveness with You, That You may be feared.” (Psalms 130:3-4 NKJV) Jesus was not captured, He laid down His life. When the people tried to throw Jesus down the cliff, Jesus walked right through their midst. He did not have to run away. That's cool. When people tried to kill Jesus before His appointed time, they could not do so. When the soldiers came to capture Jesus at night, Jesus said "I AM" and all the soldiers fell on the ground. It was His prerogative to decide when they could get up. At the cross, Jesus' head did not involuntarily drop when He died. He positioned His head for death, and He dismissed His spirit. Romans 8:15 - Fear is just one step away from hate. Children will always hate the people that they fear. Children will follow true authority. Having a slavish fear is not the right way to fear the Lord. “For you did not receive the spirit of bondage again to fear, but you received the Spirit of adoption by whom we cry out, “Abba, Father.”” (Romans 8:15 NKJV) A lot of superhero stories today have been inspired by the gospel story. Children today are flocking to watch such superhero movies. Matthew 4:10 - Jesus defined what fearing the Lord is. He defined fearing the Lord as worshiping the Lord. Jesus is the Writer of the Scriptures! The Writer must define what the words mean. “Then Jesus said to him, “Away with you, Satan! For it is written, ‘You shall worship the LORD your God, and Him only you shall serve.’ ”” (Matthew 4:10 NKJV) Deuteronomy 6:13 - This is the verse that Jesus was quoting to the devil in the wilderness, as recorded in Matthew 4:10. “You shall fear the LORD your God and serve Him, and shall take oaths in His name.” (Deuteronomy 6:13 NKJV) Hebrews 12:28-29 - We can correctly fear the Lord by having grace. To "have grace" is in the present active tense, meaning that we have to actively possess it. This fear is not a slavish fear, but a sonship fear - a reverent and awesome respect of God. Whatever is not of grace will be burned up - Our God is a consuming fire. “Therefore, since we are receiving a kingdom which cannot be shaken, let us have grace, by which we may serve God acceptably with reverence and godly fear. For our God is a consuming fire.” (Hebrews 12:28-29 NKJV) Romans 5:1 - The word "peace" is also in the present active tense. We have to actively possess this peace. The presence of this peace is not verified by going by our feelings. “Therefore, having been justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ,” (Romans 5:1 NKJV) Leviticus 10:1-2 - The two sons of Aaron added fire from an external source (possibly by rubbing two flints together) which was not commanded by the Lord, therefore they were killed. How do we apply this to our lives today: Any message or any song that is not based on the Person and centrality of Jesus, it is considered strange fire. “And Nadab and Abihu, the sons of Aaron, took either of them his censer, and put fire therein, and put incense thereon, and offered strange fire before the Lord, which he commanded them not. And there went out fire from the Lord, and devoured them, and they died before the Lord.” (Leviticus 10:1-2 KJV) Leviticus 9:24 - The fire of the altar cannot be put out - it has to keep burning. “And there came a fire out from before the Lord, and consumed upon the altar the burnt offering and the fat: which when all the people saw, they shouted, and fell on their faces.” (Leviticus 9:24 KJV) I Corinthians 15:41 - In heaven, we aren't going to be playing the harp all the time. We will be ruling. Just like each star differs from another star in glory, each person will have different capacities in their new bodies - first on earth during the Millennial rule of Jesus Christ, and then in heaven. They will be using their talents and gifts forever. “There is one glory of the sun, another glory of the moon, and another glory of the stars; for one star differs from another star in glory.” (I Corinthians 15:41 NKJV) The spirit that is released in these last days is not anti-God, it is anti-Christ. It goes against Jesus. Philippians 2:12-13 - You can't work out what you don't have in you. The verse is not talking about getting salvation through your own works. When God works it in, you work it out! "Fear and trembling" is an expression (example: Raining cats and dogs) - it is Hebraism. It expresses awe for what God has done for you. “Therefore, my beloved, as you have always obeyed, not as in my presence only, but now much more in my absence, work out your own salvation with fear and trembling; for it is God who works in you both to will and to do for His good pleasure.” (Philippians 2:12-13 NKJV) Mark 5:33-34 - The woman is fearing and trembling, meaning she is in awe of the healing that has happened to her, not that she is afraid. She was in awe because she knew what HAD happened to her, not because of what WAS GOING TO happen to her. Her fearing and trembling was not something bad, it was something good. “But the woman, fearing and trembling, knowing what had happened to her, came and fell down before Him and told Him the whole truth. And He said to her, “Daughter, your faith has made you well. Go in peace, and be healed of your affliction.”” (Mark 5:33-34 NKJV)
In heaven, we aren't going to be playing the harp all the time. We will be ruling. Just like each star differs from another star in glory, each person will have different capacities in their new bodies - first on earth during the Millennial rule of Jesus Christ, and then in heaven. They will be using their talents and gifts forever.
Luke 19:12-27 - Putting money in the bank is the last resort to the Lord. He wants us to use our money to multiply it. How you see God will affect your talents. In church, people who truly serve the Lord with their eyes on Him (and not for the sake of impressing people) have their strength multiplied and increased instead of being tired. The man who didn't multiply his minas hid it in the handkerchief because he feared his master in the wrong way. He also had a wrong impression about his master, saying that he was an austere man. Under Law, the Lord was demanding. Under grace, the Lord is supplying! When the Lord asks you to serve, He is setting you up for a blessing. Our God is a good Paymaster. Jesus asked to use Peter's boat and it caused Peter to have a catch of a net-breaking, boat-sinking load of fishes! “Therefore He said: “A certain nobleman went into a far country to receive for himself a kingdom and to return. So he called ten of his servants, delivered to them ten minas, and said to them, ‘Do business till I come.’ But his citizens hated him, and sent a delegation after him, saying, ‘We will not have this man to reign over us.’ “And so it was that when he returned, having received the kingdom, he then commanded these servants, to whom he had given the money, to be called to him, that he might know how much every man had gained by trading. Then came the first, saying, ‘Master, your mina has earned ten minas.’ And he said to him, ‘Well done, good servant; because you were faithful in a very little, have authority over ten cities.’ And the second came, saying, ‘Master, your mina has earned five minas.’ Likewise he said to him, ‘You also be over five cities.’ “Then another came, saying, ‘Master, here is your mina, which I have kept put away in a handkerchief. For I feared you, because you are an austere man. You collect what you did not deposit, and reap what you did not sow.’ And he said to him, ‘Out of your own mouth I will judge you, you wicked servant. You knew that I was an austere man, collecting what I did not deposit and reaping what I did not sow. Why then did you not put my money in the bank, that at my coming I might have collected it with interest?’ “And he said to those who stood by, ‘Take the mina from him, and give it to him who has ten minas.’ (But they said to him, ‘Master, he has ten minas.’) ‘For I say to you, that to everyone who has will be given; and from him who does not have, even what he has will be taken away from him. But bring here those enemies of mine, who did not want me to reign over them, and slay them before me.’ ”” (Luke 19:12-27 NKJV) Numbers 14:22-24 - The secret to staying young is to follow the Lord fully. Caleb having a "different spirit" should be translated as a having a "following spirit". The Lord said that Caleb had followed Him fully. “because all these men who have seen My glory and the signs which I did in Egypt and in the wilderness, and have put Me to the test now these ten times, and have not heeded My voice, they certainly shall not see the land of which I swore to their fathers, nor shall any of those who rejected Me see it. But My servant Caleb, because he has a different spirit in him and has followed Me fully, I will bring into the land where he went, and his descendants shall inherit it.” (Numbers 14:22-24 NKJV) Numbers 32-11-12 - God said that Caleb and Joshua have wholly followed Him. “‘Surely none of the men who came up from Egypt, from twenty years old and above, shall see the land of which I swore to Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, because they have not wholly followed Me, except Caleb the son of Jephunneh, the Kenizzite, and Joshua the son of Nun, for they have wholly followed the LORD.’” (Numbers 32:11-12 NKJV) Joshua 14:8, 14 - Caleb drove out the Giants at the age of 85. He remained young and strong because he wholly followed the Lord. “Nevertheless my brethren who went up with me made the heart of the people melt, but I wholly followed the LORD my God... Hebron therefore became the inheritance of Caleb the son of Jephunneh the Kenizzite to this day, because he wholly followed the LORD God of Israel.” (Joshua 14:8, 14 NKJV) John 21:20-22 - When you are conscious of the Lord's love for you, you are following the Lord already. John didn't have to be told to follow Jesus because he knew the love of Jesus for him and was already unconsciously following Jesus. Peter who boasted in his own love for Jesus, had to be told to follow Jesus. Politicians, it is easy to point to other people, but you should focus on following the Lord When you follow the Lord, you will stay young. “Then Peter, turning around, saw the disciple whom Jesus loved following, who also had leaned on His breast at the supper, and said, “Lord, who is the one who betrays You?” Peter, seeing him, said to Jesus, “But Lord, what about this man?” Jesus said to him, “If I will that he remain till I come, what is that to you? You follow Me.”” (John 21:20-22 NKJV) I hope that you have been blessed by reading this post on "3 April 2016 - The Right Way To Fear The Lord - Pastor Joseph Prince Sermon Notes Online - New Creation Church Sermon Notes Online".
