26 July 2015 - Pastor Joseph Prince Sermon Notes Online - New Creation Church Sermon Notes Online - Pastor Joseph Prince Hillsong Conference Europe 2015 Sermon - In The Order of MelchizedekWe have a divine mandate from God to rest in Jesus's finished work. When you work, God rests. When you rest, God works. Hebrews 4:1 - The Bible says 365 times not to fear. But only this one time, we are told to fear leaving God's rest. "Therefore, since a promise remains of entering His rest, let us fear lest any of you seem to have come short of it." (Hebrews 4:1 NKJV) The work is already DONE. The devil is already defeated! The devil wants to trick you into leaving God's rest. That which is visible is temporal, but that which is invisible is eternal. In the Old Testament, the high priest represents the people to God. A prophet represents God to the people. Jesus loves you right where you are now. He doesn't wait for you to clean yourself. He is the bath that makes you clean. We don't become a better man to get saved, we get saved to become a better man! Jesus is our High Priest forever. He has no successor. Whether we are accepted by God or not is not determined by how good we are, but it's about how good our High Priest is. We are not transformed by beholding our own 'gory'. We are transformed by beholding Jesus's glory. Psalms 110:4 - "Melchizedek" means "King of Righteousness". Jesus is our High Priest and King of Righteousness forever. "The LORD has sworn And will not relent, “You are a priest forever According to the order of Melchizedek.”" (Psalms 110:4 NKJV) People glorify the strong and the talented, whereas God glorifies the lost, the last, and the least. Hebrews 5:6-14 - The truths about Melchizedek are for mature people. "As He also says in another place: “You are a priest forever According to the order of Melchizedek”; who, in the days of His flesh, when He had offered up prayers and supplications, with vehement cries and tears to Him who was able to save Him from death, and was heard because of His godly fear, though He was a Son, yet He learned obedience by the things which He suffered. And having been perfected, He became the author of eternal salvation to all who obey Him, called by God as High Priest “according to the order of Melchizedek,” of whom we have much to say, and hard to explain, since you have become dull of hearing. For though by this time you ought to be teachers, you need someone to teach you again the first principles of the oracles of God; and you have come to need milk and not solid food. For everyone who partakes only of milk is unskilled in the word of righteousness, for he is a babe. But solid food belongs to those who are of full age, that is, those who by reason of use have their senses exercised to discern both good and evil." (Hebrews 5:6-14 NKJV) Genesis 14:18-24 - Melchizedek is the pre-incarnate Jesus. "Salem" means wholeness and peace. Jesus ushers us into wholeness and peace. Wine was made by crushing grapes. Jesus was crushed and his blood was poured out for the forgiveness of our sins. The Melchizedek priesthood is not like the Levitical priesthood where blessings are depending on your obedience, and if you are disobedient, you are cursed. Melchizedek's priesthood is one of blessings only! Abram responded to Melchizedek by giving him a tithe - this is before the Law was even introduced - Abram gave by revelation, not by obligation. We don't have to tithe, we get to tithe. The Hebrew word for "Rich" is in the Hebrew word for "tithe". Tithing makes us rich. The devil did not create gold and silver, God did. God created them for His children to enjoy. The devil has no qualms about giving people riches because all he is after are our souls. The king of Sodom represents the devil. Abram knew that he would become rich because he had tithed, and didn't want the devil to take credit for his increased wealth. "Then Melchizedek king of Salem brought out bread and wine; he was the priest of God Most High. And he blessed him and said: “Blessed be Abram of God Most High, Possessor of heaven and earth; And blessed be God Most High, Who has delivered your enemies into your hand.” And he gave him a tithe of all. Now the king of Sodom said to Abram, “Give me the persons, and take the goods for yourself.” But Abram said to the king of Sodom, “I have raised my hand to the LORD, God Most High, the Possessor of heaven and earth, that I will take nothing, from a thread to a sandal strap, and that I will not take anything that is yours, lest you should say, ‘I have made Abram rich’— except only what the young men have eaten, and the portion of the men who went with me: Aner, Eshcol, and Mamre; let them take their portion.”" (Genesis 14:18-24 NKJV) Jesus did not come to give us more laws, but He came to give us life, and life more abundantly! Romans 11:16 - "Holy" means set apart. The opposite of holiness is not sinfulness, it is commonness. When we give ten percent of our income as a tithe, all of our income is made holy, and the devil cannot touch what is holy. "For if the firstfruit is holy, the lump is also holy; and if the root is holy, so are the branches." (Romans 11:16 NKJV) Grace is greater than the Law. The ministry of the Law is temporary, whereas the New Covenant of Grace is permanent. Money is not the root of all evil, the LOVE of money is the root of all evil. We can break the love of money by giving the tithe. Hebrews 7:1-10 - God doesn't need our money. He owns heaven and earth, and all the cattle on a thousand hills. We are not obliged to give the tithe. Abraham gave the tithe because he recognised how great Melchizedek is. We tithe because we recognise how great Jesus is! When we tithe, it is Jesus who receives our tithe! Holy Communion is to proclaim Jesus's death. When we tithe, we proclaim that Jesus lives! When we tithe, we are affecting generations. Our tithing blesses our succeeding generations! Even if our descendants don't believe in Jesus, they will still enjoy the blessings thanks to the tithes given by the ancestors. It is no coincidence that some of the most wealthy and inventive people are Jews - some examples are Mark Zuckerberg who founded FaceBook; MGM, Universal Studios are also founded by Jews. "For this Melchizedek, king of Salem, priest of the Most High God, who met Abraham returning from the slaughter of the kings and blessed him, to whom also Abraham gave a tenth part of all, first being translated “king of righteousness,” and then also king of Salem, meaning “king of peace,” without father, without mother, without genealogy, having neither beginning of days nor end of life, but made like the Son of God, remains a priest continually. Now consider how great this man was, to whom even the patriarch Abraham gave a tenth of the spoils. And indeed those who are of the sons of Levi, who receive the priesthood, have a commandment to receive tithes from the people according to the law, that is, from their brethren, though they have come from the loins of Abraham; but he whose genealogy is not derived from them received tithes from Abraham and blessed him who had the promises. Now beyond all contradiction the lesser is blessed by the better. Here mortal men receive tithes, but there he receives them, of whom it is witnessed that he lives. Even Levi, who receives tithes, paid tithes through Abraham, so to speak, for he was still in the loins of his father when Melchizedek met him." (Hebrews 7:1-10 NKJV)
When you worry about something, God lets go. When you take no thought, God can supply you through His grace. Joseph is the son of Jacob. Joseph's life is the clearest typology of Jesus. Genesis 45:23-28 - Like Jacob, when people see our prosperity that we receive from Jesus through tithing, they will believe that Jesus is alive! When Jacob believed that Joseph was still alive, his name changed to Israel, the princely name. "And he sent to his father these things: ten donkeys loaded with the good things of Egypt, and ten female donkeys loaded with grain, bread, and food for his father for the journey. So he sent his brothers away, and they departed; and he said to them, “See that you do not become troubled along the way.” Then they went up out of Egypt, and came to the land of Canaan to Jacob their father. And they told him, saying, “Joseph is still alive, and he is governor over all the land of Egypt.” And Jacob’s heart stood still, because he did not believe them. But when they told him all the words which Joseph had said to them, and when he saw the carts which Joseph had sent to carry him, the spirit of Jacob their father revived. Then Israel said, “ It is enough. Joseph my son is still alive. I will go and see him before I die.”" (Genesis 45:23-28 NKJV) Never tithe out of an empty heart. You must tithe with revelation. II Corinthians 8:9 - Jesus became poor, so that through his poverty, we might become rich. "For you know the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, that though He was rich, yet for your sakes He became poor, that you through His poverty might become rich." (II Corinthians 8:9 NKJV) II Corinthians 9:6-11 - The Lord wants us to prosper. We decide how prosperous we want to be. The more we give to the Lord, the richer we will become. When we tithe, look out for the disproportionate influence we will have from becoming rich. It will enable us to bless His people. It is selfish to say that we have enough. God wants to enrich us so that we can be generous. "But this I say: He who sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and he who sows bountifully will also reap bountifully. So let each one give as he purposes in his heart, not grudgingly or of necessity; for God loves a cheerful giver. And God is able to make all grace abound toward you, that you, always having all sufficiency in all things, may have an abundance for every good work. As it is written: “He has dispersed abroad, He has given to the poor; His righteousness endures forever.” Now may He who supplies seed to the sower, and bread for food, supply and multiply the seed you have sown and increase the fruits of your righteousness, while you are enriched in everything for all liberality, which causes thanksgiving through us to God."
