12 February 2017 - The Holy Spirit Empowers Us To Prosper - Pastor Joseph Prince Sermon Notes Online - New Creation Church Sermon Notes OnlineThe world will always be the world - when you say A, they will say B. We are not out to please the world, we are out to please God. In heaven today - the greatest and highest spot in the universe, at the Father's right hand - there is a Man. One of us made it! Jesus can understand our weaknesses because He is also fully Man. Jesus is as much as a Man as we are, but we are not as much as a man as He is. The devil today is bruised and battered because of this Man, Jesus. The Holy Spirit's spiritual gifts are greater than any gift that man can give you. The word "gift" is "Charisma" in Greek which means "grace gift". Receiving this gift is not by your works or efforts but it is by grace. God doesn't pour His gifts out by a jar - He pours it out by His entire throne room! There are 39 books in the Old Testament. First there are 17 historical books. In the middle there are 5 poetical books. After that there are another 17 books. 17 is the number of victory in the Bible. The message of the Book of Ecclesiastes is that man's heart is too big for this world. King Solomon wrote 1005 songs in his lifetime. There is one Song of Songs that God includes in the Bible. The message of Song of Songs is that our God is too big for our heart. Ecclesiastes is about the king who had the power to indulge in everything in this world. His conclusion: vanity of vanities. Everything without Jesus is empty. Everything with Jesus is prosperous. God could have just created us with one taste on our tongue, and we wouldn't know the difference. He gave us different tastes so that we could enjoy our food. Enjoyment is not from the devil. The devil perverts God's ways. God meant for enjoyment of sex and maximised sex within marriage, whereas the devil says that you must be like a bee going to many flowers. God doesn't find ways to curb your pleasure. No, in the presence of God is the fullness of joy. Who created flowers, puppies and adorable babies? God did. Everything you see that is beautiful is just a figment of what Jesus is.
Rewards in heaven are distributed based on how faithful you were in using the grace that was given to you by God in the first place.
Romans 7:4-11 - Deliverance from addictions and sinful habits do not happen by your efforts. If it is by your efforts, you have to keep putting in the effort to maintain it. But if it is by grace, it is effortless! If you are dead to the Law, the Spirit will tell you how to love your wife. But the Law doesn't. The sinful passions in us need a law to be stirred up. If you still have the Law in your life, you will bear fruit to death. If you are dead to the Law, you will bear fruit to God. When God gave the Law, 3000 people died at the foot of Mount Sinai. When God gave the Spirit, 3000 people were saved. This shows that the letter (the Law) kills whereas the Spirit gives life. The Law that we are delivered from is not the ceremonial law, but it is the Ten Commandments. The Law says "You shall not steal". But Grace makes you a giver. We tend to qualify people, even fellow Christians. But the people who Jesus healed while He was on earth were not Christians or believers. They were sinners. All that is needed to receive from God is to believe and receive. The Greek word "Aphorme" means "a place where a movement or attack is made. A base of operations" - it is no use to just deal with the effects of sin, but it has to be dealt with from its root. The devil appears as an angel of light - A master liar never tells you a full lie - He tells you half a lie. It's the 20% untruth that will hold you back and keep you in bondage. The Law was given to Israel when they were young. But grace is for matured sons. If we are under Law, we are not killed by sin, but by breaking the commandment of the Law. "Jesus loves me" is the greatest theology of all. God knew that man cannot keep the Law. God gave the Law to bring man to the end of himself. Now we love because Jesus first loved us. “Therefore, my brethren, you also have become dead to the law through the body of Christ, that you may be married to another—to Him who was raised from the dead, that we should bear fruit to God. For when we were in the flesh, the sinful passions which were aroused by the law were at work in our members to bear fruit to death. But now we have been delivered from the law, having died to what we were held by, so that we should serve in the newness of the Spirit and not in the oldness of the letter. What shall we say then? Is the law sin? Certainly not! On the contrary, I would not have known sin except through the law. For I would not have known covetousness unless the law had said, “You shall not covet.” But sin, taking opportunity by the commandment, produced in me all manner of evil desire. For apart from the law sin was dead. I was alive once without the law, but when the commandment came, sin revived and I died. And the commandment, which was to bring life, I found to bring death. For sin, taking occasion by the commandment, deceived me, and by it killed me.” (Romans 7:4-11 NKJV) ![]()
Titus 2:11 - How did grace appear and become tangible to all man? In the Person of Jesus Christ. “For the grace of God that brings salvation has appeared to all men,” (Titus 2:11 NKJV) Romans 5:17 - Some people say, "can we tone down on grace and balance the grace message with preaching the Law?" But it is through the abundance of grace that we reign in life! “For if by the one man’s offense death reigned through the one, much more those who receive abundance of grace and of the gift of righteousness will reign in life through the One, Jesus Christ.)” (Romans 5:17 NKJV) Man gave God up for an apple. The same sin, depending on who you commit it against, causes different consequences. When you sin against God, it is no small thing. The place of hell is prepared for the devil. If you disrespect God and decide not to choose God, then you're choosing the devil. There is no middle ground. We were all born in the realm of darkness. If you're not on the side of darkness initially, then what is there to save? The things that are seen are temporal whereas the things that are invisible are eternal. Man was created in God's image so his spirit cannot cease to exist. There must be a place to house man's spirit. Hell is not a place where you shake hands with your friends. No, you can't see your friends. It is a place of fire and darkness. A place with gnashing of teeth. No one spoke more about hell than Jesus did. Galatians 5:16-18 - If you are led by the Spirit, you are not under the Law. Pray what God puts in your heart. Prayer begins in heaven and comes into our heart. When you pray what comes into your heart, you will feel good. Whatever you are worried about, tell it to Jesus. That's casting your cares unto Him. You don't even have to make your prayers beautiful. The more honest you are with Him, something good will happen. Our Heavenly Father wants you to come to Him like a child, without all the formality and protocol. To talk to God is having faith. By talking to Him, that is believing that He exists and is God. God is a Rewarder of faith. Some people are so strong in the flesh that they don't tell their family anything they are worried about, because they don't want to burden them. They don't even tell Jesus. Those who are strong outside are those who spend time talking to Jesus inside. Many people have got it in reverse: they think that they must try not to fulfill the lust of the flesh before they can walk in the Spirit. No, walk in the Spirit FIRST and you will not fulfill the lust of the flesh! "you shall not" is the Hebrew word "ume" which is a strong double negative which means "no, never". “I say then: Walk in the Spirit, and you shall not fulfill the lust of the flesh. For the flesh lusts against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh; and these are contrary to one another, so that you do not do the things that you wish. But if you are led by the Spirit, you are not under the law.” (Galatians 5:16-18 NKJV) Judges 14:5-6 - The young lion is a picture of the devil. The words "came mightily" is the Hebrew word "tsalach" which means prosperous. When the Spirit comes upon you, it empowers you to prosper. "So Samson went down to Timnah with his father and mother, and came to the vineyards of Timnah. Now to his surprise, a young lion came roaring against him. And the Spirit of the Lord came mightily upon him, and he tore the lion apart as one would have torn apart a young goat, though he had nothing in his hand. But he did not tell his father or his mother what he had done." (Judges 14:5-6, NKJV) Joshua 1:8 - The word "prosperous" is "tsalach". “This Book of the Law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate in it day and night, that you may observe to do according to all that is written in it. For then you will make your way prosperous, and then you will have good success.” (Joshua 1:8 NKJV) Genesis 39:2-3 - The words "successful" and "prosper" is "tsalach". “The LORD was with Joseph, and he was a successful man; and he was in the house of his master the Egyptian. And his master saw that the LORD was with him and that the LORD made all he did to prosper in his hand.” (Genesis 39:2-3 NKJV) Judges 15:14-15 - The words "came mightily" is "Tsalach". “When he came to Lehi, the Philistines came shouting against him. Then the Spirit of the LORD came mightily upon him; and the ropes that were on his arms became like flax that is burned with fire, and his bonds broke loose from his hands. He found a fresh jawbone of a donkey, reached out his hand and took it, and killed a thousand men with it.” (Judges 15:14-15 NKJV) ![]()
When you sin against God, it is no small thing. The place of hell is prepared for the devil. If you disrespect God and decide not to choose God, then you're choosing the devil. John 14:16-17 - There are two Greek words for "Another". One is "Heteros" which means "other, different", and one is "Allos" which means "other of the same/similar kind". Here Jesus is saying Allos, meaning that the Holy Spirit is the same as Him. In the Old Testament, the Holy Spirit comes upon someone to perform something and then leaves. But today, the Holy Spirit comes into our hearts to abide with us forever. “And I will pray the Father, and He will give you another Helper, that He may abide with you forever— the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive, because it neither sees Him nor knows Him; but you know Him, for He dwells with you and will be in you.” (John 14:16-17 NKJV) John 16:14 - Do you want to know whether a ministry is from God? Listen to whether it glorifies Jesus. The spirit of the end times is not the spirit of anti-God. It is the spirit of anti-Christ. The Holy Spirit did not come to glorify Himself. He came to glorify Jesus. “He will glorify Me, for He will take of what is Mine and declare it to you.” (John 16:14 NKJV) Genesis 1:1-3 - The word "hovering" when translated is a very intimate word. The Holy Spirit was fluttering over the chaos on the earth that Lucifer had caused. “In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. The earth was without form, and void; and darkness was on the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God was hovering over the face of the waters. Then God said, “Let there be light”; and there was light.” (Genesis 1:1-3 NKJV) It is possible to grieve and quench the Holy Spirit when He is there and we ignore and don't recognise His presence, refusing to allow Him to work in our lives. John 14:26-27 - The Holy Spirit leads you by peace. If you see something good but you don't feel the peace, DON'T DO IT. “But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in My name, He will teach you all things, and bring to your remembrance all things that I said to you. Peace I leave with you, My peace I give to you; not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.” (John 14:26-27 NKJV) Acts 10:43-44 - The words "fell upon" means embraced. The Holy Spirit hugged them when the forgiveness of sins through Jesus was preached. “To Him all the prophets witness that, through His name, whoever believes in Him will receive remission of sins.” While Peter was still speaking these words, the Holy Spirit fell upon all those who heard the word.” (Acts 10:43-44 NKJV) I hope that you have been blessed by reading this post on "12 February 2017 - The Holy Spirit Empowers Us To Prosper - Pastor Joseph Prince Sermon Notes Online - New Creation Church Sermon Notes Online".
