25 January 2015 - Pastor Joseph Prince Sermon Notes Online - New Creation Church Sermon Notes Online - Draw Near to God with a Heart in Full Assurance of FaithWhen God restores, it's either greater in quality, quantity or both! A true celebrity is one who has Jesus at the center of his or her life! True success is when your family is serving The Lord. There is no point being a public success but a private failure. Hebrews 10:15-25 - God wants us to come with a full assurance of faith in our salvation. Faith does not deal with conjectures or uncertainties. It is sure. Jesus's work righteously paid for all our sins. The Holy Spirit's witness is that God remembers our sins and lawless deeds no more - He was there at Calvary and witnessed The Father put all the sins of the world upon Jesus! The Holy Spirit convicts the unsaved of sin, reminds us as believers that we are righteous, and convicts Satan of his judgement. The Holy Spirit does not nag at us, but He guides and leads us. Under the Law, the priests approached God with fear and trepidation because they could drop dead if they were unclean before the holy God. But now, God has opened a new and living way for us where we can approach God with confidence and full assurance of faith. Under the Law, the standing of the people of Israel were wrapped up in the standing of their high priest before God. They didn't have a sure assurance of faith because their high priests were subject to change and making mistakes. But now, under Grace, we have a perfect High Priest, our Lord Jesus Christ, forever! If we still act as though we are unclean as believers, it is a great insult to the perfect work of Jesus that purchased our complete forgiveness and salvation. When we assemble ourselves together, it will result in the fruits of faith, hope and love. "But the Holy Spirit also witnesses to us; for after He had said before, “This is the covenant that I will make with them after those days, says the LORD: I will put My laws into their hearts, and in their minds I will write them,” then He adds, “Their sins and their lawless deeds I will remember no more.” Now where there is remission of these, there is no longer an offering for sin. Therefore, brethren, having boldness to enter the Holiest by the blood of Jesus, by a new and living way which He consecrated for us, through the veil, that is, His flesh, and having a High Priest over the house of God, let us draw near with a true heart in full assurance of faith, having our hearts sprinkled from an evil conscience and our bodies washed with pure water. Let us hold fast the confession of our hope without wavering, for He who promised is faithful. And let us consider one another in order to stir up love and good works, not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as is the manner of some, but exhorting one another, and so much the more as you see the Day approaching." (Hebrews 10:15-25 NKJV) Hebrews 10:1-4 - The sacrifices carried out under the Law are shadows of the true substance, Jesus Christ. The people of the world avoid God because they have a sin debt on their conscience. Man gained a conscience through partaking of the fruit of the Tree of the Knowledge of Good and Evil, and that voice cannot be repressed. Our conscience can only be perfectly satisfied through the perfect sacrifice for our sins, the work of our Lord Jesus Christ on the cross. "For the law, having a shadow of the good things to come, and not the very image of the things, can never with these same sacrifices, which they offer continually year by year, make those who approach perfect. For then would they not have ceased to be offered? For the worshipers, once purified, would have had no more consciousness of sins. But in those sacrifices there is a reminder of sins every year. For it is not possible that the blood of bulls and goats could take away sins." (Hebrews 10:1-4 NKJV) Right believing will always lead to right living. The Law demands, while Grace supplies. God's supply always exceeds our needs. God supplies our needs according to His riches in glory in Christ Jesus, and compared to His riches, our needs are minuscule. Jesus's most often inditement to His disciples while He was on earth is that they had little faith. He is saying that He is so full, but the disciples only take so little. Jesus is a massive overpayment for all the sin debt of mankind - His value is greater than all the sins of humans past, present and future combined together. There are six chapters in the book of Ephesians. The first three chapters of Ephesians tells you who you are in Christ and what God has made us to be. The last three chapters then deal with what you should do. God wants us to enjoy our closeness to Him. To enjoy His works for us is to obey Him. An analogy: We need to know what we have in the bank account before we can spend freely. Hebrews 10:9-12 - Our Heavenly Father's will is to take away the Law and establish Grace. Jesus's work is one-time only, and it is effective forever. He sat down at the right hand of God because His work is complete. "then He said, “Behold, I have come to do Your will, O God.” He takes away the first that He may establish the second. By that will we have been sanctified through the offering of the body of Jesus Christ once for all. And every priest stands ministering daily and offering repeatedly the same sacrifices, which can never take away sins. But this Man, after He had offered one sacrifice for sins forever, sat down at the right hand of God," (Hebrews 10:9-12 NKJV) Numbers 5:1-2 - Under the Law, the clean is defiled by the unclean. Grace is so much greater and it gives us the superabundant life. Jesus cleansed the leper, the woman who had a discharge, and raised the dead. Under Grace, the unclean becomes clean. "And the LORD spoke to Moses, saying: “Command the children of Israel that they put out of the camp every leper, everyone who has a discharge, and whoever becomes defiled by a corpse." (Numbers 5:1-2 NKJV) 1 John 2:12 - God has completely forgiven us for our sins once we believe and confess that Jesus Christ is our Lord and Savior. This forgiveness is once and for all, both judicially and parentally. "I write to you, little children, Because your sins are forgiven you for His name’s sake." (I John 2:12 NKJV) The people of God want to perform well, but if they should fall, there is a safety net (eternal salvation) to protect them (their conscience). The net is there to enhance their performance by giving them the sure assurance of their safety (eternal security of their salvation). Hebrews 10:26-31 - Wilful sin is not moral sin. Sinning wilfully means to know the truth and yet consciously choose not to believe. What more can be done to save you that Jesus has not done? The book of Hebrews is written to the Jews. Judas Iscariot is a good example of knowing the truth but not receiving it. That is an example of counting the blood of Jesus as a common thing and insulting the Spirit of grace. One can be sanctified and not be saved. Sanctified here is "hagiazo" meaning "set apart". All Jews are set apart as nation to God, but not all Jews are saved. "His people" refers to Israel. We must remember that the book of Hebrews is written to the Jews. "For if we sin willfully after we have received the knowledge of the truth, there no longer remains a sacrifice for sins, but a certain fearful expectation of judgment, and fiery indignation which will devour the adversaries. Anyone who has rejected Moses’ law dies without mercy on the testimony of two or three witnesses. Of how much worse punishment, do you suppose, will he be thought worthy who has trampled the Son of God underfoot, counted the blood of the covenant by which he was sanctified a common thing, and insulted the Spirit of grace? For we know Him who said, “Vengeance is Mine, I will repay,” says the Lord. And again, “The LORD will judge His people.” It is a fearful thing to fall into the hands of the living God." (Hebrews 10:26-31 NKJV) Hebrews 10:28 - Under the Law, the punishment of rejecting the Law is death without mercy. Even worse is the fate of him or her who rejects willfully what Jesus has done for our us. "Anyone who has rejected Moses’ law dies without mercy on the testimony of two or three witnesses." (Hebrews 10:28 NKJV) Numbers 15:30-36 - This is the only instance recorded of willful sin committed in the Old Testament. The man willfully committed a refusal to rest in the finished work of God. "‘But the person who does anything presumptuously, whether he is native-born or a stranger, that one brings reproach on the LORD, and he shall be cut off from among his people. Because he has despised the word of the LORD, and has broken His commandment, that person shall be completely cut off; his guilt shall be upon him.’ ” Now while the children of Israel were in the wilderness, they found a man gathering sticks on the Sabbath day. And those who found him gathering sticks brought him to Moses and Aaron, and to all the congregation. They put him under guard, because it had not been explained what should be done to him. Then the LORD said to Moses, “The man must surely be put to death; all the congregation shall stone him with stones outside the camp.” So, as the LORD commanded Moses, all the congregation brought him outside the camp and stoned him with stones, and he died." (Numbers 15:30-36 NKJV) The more you rest in the finished work of Jesus Christ, the more you will receive the restoration that you need. Be supply-conscious. 1 Corinthians 7:13-14 - Sanctified here is also "hagiazo" which means "set apart". It doesn't mean that the unbelieving spouse is saved, but they are specially blessed by God because of the spouse who is a believer. We are not encouraged to be unequally-yoked with an unbeliever, but if you are already married to an unbelieving spouse, we are told not to divorce him or her. The offspring of a married couple consisting of one unbeliever and one believer are counted as holy to God. The devil cannot touch the children. "And a woman who has a husband who does not believe, if he is willing to live with her, let her not divorce him. For the unbelieving husband is sanctified by the wife, and the unbelieving wife is sanctified by the husband; otherwise your children would be unclean, but now they are holy." (I Corinthians 7:13-14 NKJV) Deuteronomy 31:21-22 - "His people" refers to the people of Israel. "Then it shall be, when many evils and troubles have come upon them, that this song will testify against them as a witness; for it will not be forgotten in the mouths of their descendants, for I know the inclination of their behavior today, even before I have brought them to the land of which I swore to give them. ” Therefore Moses wrote this song the same day, and taught it to the children of Israel." (Deuteronomy 31:21-22 NKJV) Deuteronomy 32:35-36 - God will judge the people of Israel. It's not talking about the Gentile nations. "Vengeance is Mine, and recompense; Their foot shall slip in due time; For the day of their calamity is at hand, And the things to come hasten upon them.’ “For the LORD will judge His people And have compassion on His servants, When He sees that their power is gone, And there is no one remaining, bond or free." (Deuteronomy 32:35-36 NKJV) John 10:28-29 - We can never be lost again after we have been saved. We are eternally secure. "And I give them eternal life, and they shall never perish; neither shall anyone snatch them out of My hand. My Father, who has given them to Me, is greater than all; and no one is able to snatch them out of My Father’s hand."
