8 February 2015 - Pastor Joseph Prince Sermon Notes Online - New Creation Church Sermon Notes Online - Pray New Covenant Prayers with Boldness

If a teaching is from God, He will enlarge it. If it's not, He will overthrow it and make it futile.

The writers of New Testament Scripture are secretaries, picked by the Author, the glorified Jesus Christ.

John 16:23-24 - According to Pastor Joseph Prince, in Paul's epistles, Paul doesn't end any of his prayers with "in the name of the Lord Jesus".
Praying in Jesus's name is not about tagging our Lord's name at the back of our prayer.
To pray in Jesus's name means to ask on the behalf of and in the authority of the glorified Jesus Christ.
We must have the conscious nearness to God, as if it is Jesus Himself who is praying when we are praying to the Father.
We must know that we are loved and accepted by the Father just as Jesus is perfectly loved and accepted by Him.

"“And in that day you will ask Me nothing. Most assuredly, I say to you, whatever you ask the Father in My name He will give you. Until now you have asked nothing in My name. Ask, and you will receive, that your joy may be full."" (John 16:23-24 NKJV)

Commanding a demon to come out from a person by saying Jesus's name is correct, because demons are subject to His name.
But when praying to the Father, praying in Jesus's name means something different.

Romans 8:15 - We pray not with the slavish fear of God, but in the spirit of sonship to God. Today, the "fear of God" means to reverently worship the Father.

"For you did not receive the spirit of bondage again to fear, but you received the Spirit of adoption by whom we cry out, “Abba, Father.”" (Romans 8:15 NKJV)

If you enjoy someone's presence so much, you will just want to linger there. That's the kind of fellowship with God that we should have.

God designed for pregnancy to be caused during the closest, enjoyable and most intimate interaction between a man and a woman.
This makes sex within the context of marriage, a sacred and beautiful activity. Sex is not just body to body, but it is soul to soul, spirit to spirit.
God designed sex in such a way that it creates oneness. It leaves behind something from the other person on your own spirit, so don't have sex outside of marriage.

Philippians 4:6-7 - This is a New Covenant prayer model. "Let your requests be made known to God" is in the passive participle in Greek.

"Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God; and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus." (Philippians 4:6-7 NKJV)

I Corinthians 14:14-17- When we pray in tongues, we pray in our spirit man which knows no limitations, beyond our mind's understanding.
When we pray in a known language, we pray by our own limited understanding.
The understanding part of our prayers is more for the person than for God.
Every believer can pray in tongues. When you pray from your spirit, you are uttering the most holy prayer.
We are the temple of God, and when we pray in the spirit, our heart becomes the Holy of Holies.

"For if I pray in a tongue, my spirit prays, but my understanding is unfruitful. What is the conclusion then? I will pray with the spirit, and I will also pray with the understanding. I will sing with the spirit, and I will also sing with the understanding. Otherwise, if you bless with the spirit, how will he who occupies the place of the uninformed say “Amen” at your giving of thanks, since he does not understand what you say? For you indeed give thanks well, but the other is not edified." (I Corinthians 14:14-17 NKJV)

The devil will always try to dissuade you from praying in tongues, saying that you are speaking gibberish and nonsense and that you are making it up.
But be assured that you have been imparted the real gift of tongues, if not the devil wouldn't bother to lie to you, to stop you from praying in tongues.

Jesus preached the
Jesus preached the "Sermon on the Mount" (Matthew 5-7) as the constitution of the kingdom of heaven, not of the Church, which only came into being after His death and resurrection.

Old Testament Prayers versus New Covenant Prayers

Don't always think of blessings as something given to us externally. God will bless you with external things, but He will also bless you with the intangible things like excellent character and His radiance upon you.

Psalms 23:4 - If you're going through a trial right now, remember that you will go THROUGH it, and not stay there.

"Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil; For You are with me; Your rod and Your staff, they comfort me." (Psalms 23:4 NKJV)

There is only one God - the God of Jacob, Isaac and Abraham, the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ and our Heavenly Father. However there are different dispensations - the Law and grace.

Imprecatory prayers (Prayers that request for judgement upon one's enemies) were under the Old Covenant of the Law, but not for us who are under the New Covenant.
Some of the Psalms of King David were imprecatory, and they were Holy Spirit-inspired for that season, but not for the Church age that we live in now.

Jesus was born on earth under the Law, under its dispensation.

Jesus was preaching the kingdom of heaven during His ministry on earth, because the King Himself, Jesus, was here on earth.

The Sermon on the Mount is the constitution of the Kingdom of Heaven.

When Israel rejected Jesus while He was on earth, the Kingdom of Heaven was held in abeyance.

Matthew 6:9-15 - The Lord's Prayer is not a New Covenant prayer. It wasn't the Church age yet when Jesus taught this while He was on earth under the dispensation of the Law.
All believers today are perfectly forgiven already. Jesus introduced God as a Father, while He was still on earth, but that doesn't mean that His disciples were already sons of God.
The position of sonship is only given to believers after Jesus's death and resurrection.

"In this manner, therefore, pray: Our Father in heaven, Hallowed be Your name. Your kingdom come. Your will be done On earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our debts, As we forgive our debtors. And do not lead us into temptation, But deliver us from the evil one. For Yours is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever. Amen. For if you forgive men their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you. But if you do not forgive men their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses." (Matthew 6:9-15 NKJV)

Ephesians 4:30-32 - "Forgave" is in the past tense. God has already forgiven of our sins us when Christ sacrificed Himself on the cross. There is no more forgiveness that remains to be given.

"And do not grieve the Holy Spirit of God, by whom you were sealed for the day of redemption. Let all bitterness, wrath, anger, clamor, and evil speaking be put away from you, with all malice. And be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, even as God in Christ forgave you." (Ephesians 4:30-32 NKJV)

After Jesus's death and ressurection, on the Day of Pentecost, in the Upper Room, all the disciples received the Holy Spirit and spoke and prayed in tongues! This gift is still available to all believers today! He who speaks in tongues speaks edification to himself and to others.
After Jesus's death and ressurection, on the Day of Pentecost, in the Upper Room, all the disciples received the Holy Spirit and spoke and prayed in tongues! This gift is still available to all believers today! He who speaks in tongues speaks edification to himself and to others.

Galatians 4:4-7 - We only gained the position as sons of God AFTER Jesus sacrificed Himself on the cross to redeem us.

"But when the fullness of the time had come, God sent forth His Son, born of a woman, born under the law, to redeem those who were under the law, that we might receive the adoption as sons. And because you are sons, God has sent forth the Spirit of His Son into your hearts, crying out, “Abba, Father!” Therefore you are no longer a slave but a son, and if a son, then an heir of God through Christ." (Galatians 4:4-7 NKJV)

John 16:23-24 - The disciples haven't been taught to pray in Jesus's name until this point in time. The Lord's Prayer isn't a prayer that asks for God's blessings in Jesus's name.

"“And in that day you will ask Me nothing. Most assuredly, I say to you, whatever you ask the Father in My name He will give you. Until now you have asked nothing in My name. Ask, and you will receive, that your joy may be full." (John 16:23-24 NKJV)

John 7:39 - The disciples who lived during Jesus's ministry on earth did not have the indwelling Holy Spirit yet because Jesus's death and resurrection didn't happen yet, and He was not yet glorified.
Before His death, the Holy Spirit came upon the disciples, but did not dwell within them.

"But this He spoke concerning the Spirit, whom those believing in Him would receive; for the Holy Spirit was not yet given, because Jesus was not yet glorified." (John 7:39 NKJV)

Psalms 23:5-6 - Goodness and mercy will certainly hunt us down all the days of our lives as believers. This promise is for us today!

"You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies; You anoint my head with oil; My cup runs over. Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me All the days of my life; And I will dwell in the house of the LORD Forever." (Psalms 23:5-6 NKJV)

Jeremiah 18:20-22 - This imprecatory prayer by the prophet Jeremiah is Holy Spirit-inspired and it's for that season, but not for the Church age that we live in now.
If we pray imprecatory prayers today, they will be ineffective today. Cursing people to have judgement/calamities brought upon them is considered as evil spiritual witchcraft.

"Shall evil be repaid for good? For they have dug a pit for my life. Remember that I stood before You To speak good for them, To turn away Your wrath from them. Therefore deliver up their children to the famine, And pour out their blood By the force of the sword; Let their wives become widows And bereaved of their children. Let their men be put to death, Their young men be slain By the sword in battle. Let a cry be heard from their houses, When You bring a troop suddenly upon them; For they have dug a pit to take me, And hidden snares for my feet." (Jeremiah 18:20-22 NKJV)

Luke 9:51-56 - During Jesus's ministry on earth, He came to give a new dispensation of grace, not of judgement under the Law.
Jesus rebuked James and John when they had the intention to pray an imprecatory prayer and told them that He came not to destroy men, but to save them.

"Now it came to pass, when the time had come for Him to be received up, that He steadfastly set His face to go to Jerusalem, and sent messengers before His face. And as they went, they entered a village of the Samaritans, to prepare for Him. But they did not receive Him, because His face was set for the journey to Jerusalem. And when His disciples James and John saw this, they said, “Lord, do You want us to command fire to come down from heaven and consume them, just as Elijah did?” But He turned and rebuked them, and said, “You do not know what manner of spirit you are of. For the Son of Man did not come to destroy men’s lives but to save them. ” And they went to another village." (Luke 9:51-56 NKJV)
