23 October 2019 - Hope Perfectly Upon Jesus Christ - Pastor Gabriel Tan Encounter Night Sermon Notes - New Creation Church Midweek ServicePraise and Worship Songs performed: 1. The Lion And the Lamb - Bethel Music 2. Victory Is Yours - Bethel Music 3. Let It Rain - Michael Farren 4. Wonderful (Grace Made Real) New Creation Worship 5. Times of Refreshing - Don Harris 6. Living Hope - Bethel Music Some people in the congregation were on the verge of giving up hope. Synecdoche means “the part represents the whole”. When you proclaim the death of Jesus, you’re also proclaiming the death, burial and resurrection of Jesus. When you get water baptized, you’re identifying with the death, burial and resurrection of Jesus Christ. Romans 5:5 - When we place our hope in Jesus, we will not be put to shame. “And hope does not put us to shame, because God’s love has been poured out into our hearts through the Holy Spirit, who has been given to us.” (Romans 5:5 NIV) Isaiah 28:16 - Don’t act hastily or you may very well be put to shame. Don’t be indifferent either. Rest is not inactivity—it is Holy Spirit directed activity. When you pray in tongues, you’ll be at rest and you won’t act hastily. If God opens a door for you, no one can shut it—don’t think that you’ll miss it if you don’t act now. Even if a door from Him closes, don’t you think He can open another? “Therefore thus says the Lord Yahweh, “Behold, I lay in Zion for a foundation a stone, a tried stone, a precious cornerstone of a sure foundation. He who believes shall not act hastily.” (Isaiah 28:16 WEB) Romans 5:6-8 - God “commends/demonstrates” in Greek is “sunistémi” (present active indicative tense) His own love towards us—He keeps on pointing to the cross of Jesus Christ. That is the love of our Savior. Jesus’ finished work at the cross is eternal—outside of time. The Book of Revelation says that the Book of Life belongs to Jesus the lamb who was slain from the foundation of the world—the cross covers the past, present and future. Never get familiar with Jesus, with the Word of God. Get intimate with the Lord—a fresh consciousness of love. Similarly don’t get familiar with your spouse. Keep the love fresh—that way things won’t go awry. “For while we were yet weak, at the right time Christ died for the ungodly. For one will hardly die for a righteous man. Yet perhaps for a righteous person someone would even dare to die. But God commends his own love toward us, in that while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.” (Romans 5:6-8 WEB)
Pastor Gabriel Tan encouraged us at the final encounter night service of the year, showing us how we can perfectly hope in Jesus who is the hope of glory inside us. When we allow ourselves to be led by the Holy Spirit indwelling us and keep a fresh revelation of Jesus' finished work at the cross, we'll be able to have a confident expectation of good in our future.
