God You’re So Good - Brett Younker God’s goodness cannot be overstated or exaggerated. His goodness is above all or we can think or imagine—He is good all the time. God has a special heart for those who are trapped in prison—it may not be a literal prison, but it could be a prison of sickness, hopelessness, depression, addiction, etc. God wants to set you free! Luke 4:16-19 - Jesus read from Isaiah 61 which was written more than 700 years before Jesus came to earth. Jesus added something to this passage in the book of Isaiah and did not read something in it. He added “recovery of sight to the blind”. This is a Messianic sign, to prove that He is the Messiah. Everything else that Jesus read can be done by anyone. Only the miracle of giving sight to the blind proves that one qualified to be the Messiah. “He came to Nazareth, where he had been brought up. He entered, as was his custom, into the synagogue on the Sabbath day, and stood up to read. The book of the prophet Isaiah was handed to him. He opened the book, and found the place where it was written, “The Spirit of the Lord is on me, because he has anointed me to preach good news to the poor. He has sent me to heal the broken hearted, to proclaim release to the captives, recovering of sight to the blind, to deliver those who are crushed, and to proclaim the acceptable year of the Lord.”” (Luke 4:16-19 WEB) Isaiah 61:1-2 - This is the original passage Jesus read from. “The Lord Yahweh’s Spirit is on me; because Yahweh has anointed me to preach good news to the humble. He has sent me to bind up the broken hearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives, and release to those who are bound; to proclaim the year of Yahweh’s favor, and the day of vengeance of our God; to comfort all who mourn;” (Isaiah 61:1-2 WEB) Isaiah 42:6-9 - Isaiah prophesied that the Messiah would open blind eyes. ““I, Yahweh, have called you in righteousness, and will hold your hand, and will keep you, and make you a covenant for the people, as a light for the nations; to open the blind eyes, to bring the prisoners out of the dungeon, and those who sit in darkness out of the prison. “I am Yahweh. That is my name. I will not give my glory to another, nor my praise to engraved images. Behold, the former things have happened, and I declare new things. I tell you about them before they come up.”” (Isaiah 42:6-9 WEB)
