New Sermon Notes: Pastor Lawrence Lim taught us how to be continually filled with the Holy Spirit. When we praise the Lord, we receive power, wisdom, and the blessings of God!

Ephesians 5:15-21 - We need to be careful about how we live our lives.
The days are evil so we need to walk wisely.
“Filled” is in the present passive imperative tense. The Amplified Bible translates it as “ever be filled with the Holy Spirit”.
You can keep on being filled with the Holy Spirit when you sing praises to God.
Give thanks in all things. God will make all things work together for our good.
We praise God who is good, not our circumstances.
When the Holy Spirit comes upon you, you will receive humility and wisdom.

“Therefore watch carefully how you walk, not as unwise, but as wise, redeeming the time, because the days are evil. Therefore, don’t be foolish, but understand what the will of the Lord is. Don’t be drunken with wine, in which is dissipation, but be filled with the Spirit, speaking to one another in psalms, hymns, and spiritual songs; singing and making melody in your heart to the Lord; giving thanks always concerning all things in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ to God, even the Father; subjecting yourselves to one another in the fear of Christ.” (Ephesians‬ ‭5:15-21‬ ‭WEBUS‬‬)

We can learn something from anyone and anything.
Don’t feel entitled as though the world owes you anything.

1 Samuel 16:14-16 - Even the servants knew that anointed music has the power to drive away the evil spirit.

“Now Yahweh’s Spirit departed from Saul, and an evil spirit from Yahweh troubled him. Saul’s servants said to him, “See now, an evil spirit from God troubles you. Let our Lord now command your servants who are in front of you to seek out a man who is a skillful player on the harp. Then when the evil spirit from God is on you, he will play with his hand, and you will be well.”” (1 Samuel‬ ‭16:14-16‬ ‭WEBUS‬‬)

1 Samuel 16:21-23 - Music is God’s gift to man. It can refresh you. God will impart wisdom to you when you are refreshed.

“David came to Saul and stood before him. He loved him greatly; and he became his armor bearer. Saul sent to Jesse, saying, “Please let David stand before me, for he has found favor in my sight.” When the spirit from God was on Saul, David took the harp and played with his hand; so Saul was refreshed and was well, and the evil spirit departed from him.” (1 Samuel‬ ‭16:21-23‬ ‭WEBUS‬‬)

2 Kings 3:9-19 - Elisha didn’t want to help Ahab because Ahab was evil. But for Jehoshaphat’s sake, he was willing to help.
Elisha understood that when anointed music is played, the prophetic word of the Lord will come.

“So the king of Israel went with the king of Judah and the king of Edom, and they marched for seven days along a circuitous route. There was no water for the army or for the animals that followed them. The king of Israel said, “Alas! For Yahweh has called these three kings together to deliver them into the hand of Moab.” But Jehoshaphat said, “Isn’t there a prophet of Yahweh here, that we may inquire of Yahweh by him?” One of the king of Israel’s servants answered, “Elisha the son of Shaphat, who poured water on the hands of Elijah, is here.” Jehoshaphat said, “Yahweh’s word is with him.” So the king of Israel and Jehoshaphat and the king of Edom went down to him. Elisha said to the king of Israel, “What have I to do with you? Go to the prophets of your father, and to the prophets of your mother.” The king of Israel said to him, “No, for Yahweh has called these three kings together to deliver them into the hand of Moab.” Elisha said, “As Yahweh of Armies lives, before whom I stand, surely, were it not that I respect the presence of Jehoshaphat the king of Judah, I would not look toward you, nor see you. But now bring me a musician.” When the musician played, Yahweh’s hand came on him. He said, “Yahweh says, ‘Make this valley full of trenches.’ For Yahweh says, ‘You will not see wind, neither will you see rain, yet that valley will be filled with water, and you will drink, both you and your livestock and your other animals. This is an easy thing in Yahweh’s sight. He will also deliver the Moabites into your hand. You shall strike every fortified city and every choice city, and shall fell every good tree, and stop all springs of water, and mar every good piece of land with stones.’”” (‭‭2 Kings‬ ‭3:9-19‬ ‭WEBUS‬‬)

When you praise the Lord, good things will happen

Habakkuk 3:17-19 - Even when there is bad news all around, you can still rejoice in the Lord. Praise is strength.

“For even though the fig tree doesn’t flourish, nor fruit be in the vines, the labor of the olive fails, the fields yield no food, the flocks are cut off from the fold, and there is no herd in the stalls, yet I will rejoice in Yahweh. I will be joyful in the God of my salvation! Yahweh, the Lord, is my strength. He makes my feet like deer’s feet, and enables me to go in high places. For the music director, on my stringed instruments.” (Habakkuk‬ ‭3:17-19‬ ‭WEBUS‬‬)

The first time the word praise appears in the Bible is when Leah gave birth to her son “Judah”. The Hebrew word for praise is “yadah” and it can also be translated as give thanks.
Yadah is made of three Hebrew letters: yod (hand), dalet (door), hei (grace). When you raise your hands in praise, you are opening the door to grace.

Luke 17:11-19 - The lepers were healed as they obeyed Jesus’ words.
Jesus was perplexed that ten were healed but only one came back to give thanks to God.
There is always something to give thanks for as a believer. You are saved from Hell and have eternal life. You have a relationship with Father God.
Let’s praise God whether we understand or not.
The leper who came back was restored fully in his body. The rest were healed but not restored.

“As he was on his way to Jerusalem, he was passing along the borders of Samaria and Galilee. As he entered into a certain village, ten men who were lepers met him, who stood at a distance. They lifted up their voices, saying, “Jesus, Master, have mercy on us!” When he saw them, he said to them, “Go and show yourselves to the priests.” As they went, they were cleansed. One of them, when he saw that he was healed, turned back, glorifying God with a loud voice. He fell on his face at Jesus’ feet, giving him thanks; and he was a Samaritan. Jesus answered, “Weren’t the ten cleansed? But where are the nine? Were there none found who returned to give glory to God, except this foreigner?” Then he said to him, “Get up, and go your way. Your faith has healed you.”” (Luke‬ ‭17:11-19‬ ‭WEBUS‬‬)

1 Thessalonians 5:16-18 - ALWAYS rejoice.

“Always rejoice. Pray without ceasing. In everything give thanks, for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus toward you.” (1 Thessalonians‬ ‭5:16-18‬ ‭WEBUS‬‬)

Amos 9:11-15 - The Tabernacle of David only lasted for forty years. It was a unique time.
In Acts 15:16, the apostle James quoted from Amos 9, indicated that the church age (our times) is the time where the Tabernacle of David will be restored.
The Tabernacle of David was surrounded by praise and worship.

“In that day I will raise up the tent of David who is fallen and close up its breaches, and I will raise up its ruins, and I will build it as in the days of old, that they may possess the remnant of Edom and all the nations who are called by my name,” says Yahweh who does this. “Behold, the days come,” says Yahweh, “that the plowman shall overtake the reaper, and the one treading grapes him who sows seed; and sweet wine will drip from the mountains, and flow from the hills. I will bring my people Israel back from captivity, and they will rebuild the ruined cities, and inhabit them; and they will plant vineyards, and drink wine from them. They shall also make gardens, and eat their fruit. I will plant them on their land, and they will no more be plucked up out of their land which I have given them,” says Yahweh your God.” (Amos‬ ‭9:11-15‬ ‭WEBUS‬‬)

1 Chronicles 16:41-42 - David specifically instructed for praise and giving of thanks to be done before the Tabernacle of David. We are living in the times where God wants us to rejoice and give thanks always.

“and with them Heman and Jeduthun and the rest who were chosen, who were mentioned by name, to give thanks to Yahweh, because his loving kindness endures forever; and with them Heman and Jeduthun with trumpets and cymbals for those that should sound aloud, and with instruments for the songs of God, and the sons of Jeduthun to be at the gate.” (1 Chronicles‬ ‭16:41-42‬ ‭WEBUS‬‬)

Philippians 4:4 - The apostle Paul wrote this when he was in prison. Some refer to this letter as Paul’s “ode to joy”.

“Rejoice in the Lord always! Again I will say, “Rejoice!”” (Philippians‬ ‭4:4‬ ‭WEBUS‬‬)

Philippians 3:1 - Your salvation from troubles is found in your rejoicing in the Lord.

“Finally, my brothers, rejoice in the Lord! To write the same things to you, to me indeed is not tiresome, but for you it is safe.” (Philippians‬ ‭3:1‬ ‭WEBUS‬‬)

1 Samuel 30:1-8 - Even though David was so grieved that he wept until he had no power to weep.
In that dire situation where the people wanted to stone him to death, David strengthened himself in the Lord.

“When David and his men had come to Ziklag on the third day, the Amalekites had made a raid on the South and on Ziklag, and had struck Ziklag and burned it with fire, and had taken captive the women and all who were in it, both small and great. They didn’t kill any, but carried them off and went their way. When David and his men came to the city, behold, it was burned with fire; and their wives, their sons, and their daughters were taken captive. Then David and the people who were with him lifted up their voice and wept until they had no more power to weep. David’s two wives were taken captive, Ahinoam the Jezreelitess, and Abigail the wife of Nabal the Carmelite. David was greatly distressed, for the people spoke of stoning him, because the souls of all the people were grieved, every man for his sons and for his daughters; but David strengthened himself in Yahweh his God. David said to Abiathar the priest, the son of Ahimelech, “Please bring the ephod here to me.” Abiathar brought the ephod to David. David inquired of Yahweh, saying, “If I pursue after this troop, will I overtake them?” He answered him, “Pursue, for you will surely overtake them, and will without fail recover all.”” (1 Samuel‬ ‭30:1-8‬ ‭WEBUS‬‬)

Psalm 34:1-5 - When he had to feign madness, he wrote Psalm 34.
At Ziklag, David most likely strengthened himself in the Lord through praise and worship.

“I will bless Yahweh at all times. His praise will always be in my mouth. My soul shall boast in Yahweh. The humble shall hear of it and be glad. Oh magnify Yahweh with me. Let’s exalt his name together. I sought Yahweh, and he answered me, and delivered me from all my fears. They looked to him, and were radiant. Their faces shall never be covered with shame.” (Psalms‬ ‭34:1-5‬ ‭WEBUS‬‬)

Psalm 147:1 - Praise is beautiful to the Lord.

“Praise the Lord! For it is good to sing praises to our God; For it is pleasant, and praise is beautiful.” (Psalms‬ ‭147:1‬ ‭NKJV‬‬)

Psalm 145:2 - Praise God every day. It’s not just for Sundays.

“Every day I will praise you. I will extol your name forever and ever.” (Psalms‬ ‭145:2‬ ‭WEBUS‬‬)

Isaiah 60:1-7 - This passage is for our times, not for the Millennium because there will not be darkness covering the earth during the Millennium.
There will be an end-time transfer of wealth for the church.

““Arise, shine; for your light has come, and Yahweh’s glory has risen on you! For behold, darkness will cover the earth, and thick darkness the peoples; but Yahweh will arise on you, and his glory shall be seen on you. Nations will come to your light, and kings to the brightness of your rising. “Lift up your eyes all around, and see: they all gather themselves together. They come to you. Your sons will come from far away, and your daughters will be carried in arms. Then you shall see and be radiant, and your heart will thrill and be enlarged; because the abundance of the sea will be turned to you. The wealth of the nations will come to you. A multitude of camels will cover you, the dromedaries of Midian and Ephah. All from Sheba will come. They will bring gold and frankincense, and will proclaim the praises of Yahweh. All the flocks of Kedar will be gathered together to you. The rams of Nebaioth will serve you. They will be accepted as offerings on my altar; and I will beautify my glorious house.” (Isaiah‬ ‭60:1-7‬ ‭WEBUS‬‬)

Isaiah 60:11 - Your gates (your mouth) shall be open continually for the wealth to come in.

“Your gates also shall be open continually; they shall not be shut day nor night, that men may bring to you the wealth of the nations, and their kings led captive.” (Isaiah‬ ‭60:11‬ ‭WEBUS‬‬)

Isaiah 60:17-18 - When you praise God day and night, the blessings of God flow into your life. Keep on praising Him. It is your strength and wisdom.
When you praise God, something good will happen.

“For bronze I will bring gold; for iron I will bring silver; for wood, bronze, and for stones, iron. I will also make peace your governor, and righteousness your ruler. Violence shall no more be heard in your land, nor desolation or destruction within your borders; but you will call your walls Salvation, and your gates Praise.” (Isaiah‬ ‭60:17-18‬ ‭WEBUS‬‬)
