29 November 2020 - How to Live Holy Under Grace - New Creation Church Sermon Notes - Pastor Lawrence LimPastor Lawrence Lim taught us how to live in true holiness through Grace which produces heart transformation and not just behavior modification through the works of the Law. If you want to live above sin and reign in life, this is a great sermon to meditate on. Praise and Worship songs performed: 1. Give Me This Mountain - New Creation Worship 2. Blessed Assurance - Fanny Crosby and Phoebe Knapp 3. Shout to the Lord - Darlene Zschech 4. O Come O Come Emmanuel - John Mason Neale Matthew 7:11 - We have a good Heavenly Father who gives us good gifts. “If you then, being evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father who is in heaven give good things to those who ask him!” (Matthew 7:11 WEB) 1 Corinthians 15:3 - The forgiveness of our sins is the greatest blessing we have received. You have been delivered from the penalty of sin. “For I delivered to you first of all that which I also received: that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures,” (1 Corinthians 15:3 WEB) Ephesians 1:7 - “According”, not just “out of”—God has forgiven us so graciously. “in whom we have our redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of our trespasses, according to the riches of his grace,” (Ephesians 1:7 WEB) Romans 1:16-17 - Gospel means “good news”. We need to pay attention to the good news of Jesus Christ and not the bad news in the world. The Gospel doesn’t just save you from Hell—it also brings you protection, preservation and provision. It is when we receive and believe the Gospel that we experience the power of God for salvation. “For I am not ashamed of the Good News of Christ, for it is the power of God for salvation for everyone who believes; for the Jew first, and also for the Greek. For in it is revealed God’s righteousness from faith to faith. As it is written, “But the righteous shall live by faith.”” (Romans 1:16-17 WEB) Sin carries a penalty. The Bible says that the soul that sins must die. Our God is holy—He must judge sinful man for sins. This created universe is established upon justice and righteousness. Jesus took our sins upon Himself and was fully punished for them at the cross. God initiated this so that He would not have to punish us. Romans 4:5-8 - Our righteousness comes apart from works. It was received by faith. God shall not impute sin to you because He imputed it to Jesus. “But to him who doesn’t work, but believes in him who justifies the ungodly, his faith is accounted for righteousness. Even as David also pronounces blessing on the man to whom God counts righteousness apart from works, “Blessed are they whose iniquities are forgiven, whose sins are covered. Blessed is the man whom the Lord will by no means charge with sin.”” (Romans 4:5-8 WEB) 1 Corinthians 1:30 - The grace of God upon our lives empowers us to live with moral excellence and character success. God wants us to live lives that glorify Him. Only the Gospel of Grace leads you to true holiness—transformation from the heart. Sin is never okay. Pastor Joseph Prince and New Creation Church believe in holiness and living lives that glorify God. “Because of him, you are in Christ Jesus, who was made to us wisdom from God, and righteousness and sanctification, and redemption:” (1 Corinthians 1:30 WEB) If you want to know a trustworthiness of a ministry, look at its results. You can read all the testimonies shared on Pastor Prince’s website. A tree will be known by its fruits. Romans 6:14 - Have hope in your heart that your sinful habit will not remain. You are under Grace, so sin will not have dominion over you. “For sin will not have dominion over you. For you are not under law, but under grace.” (Romans 6:14 WEB) 2 Peter 2:7-8 - Compare Abraham and Lot. Both were called righteous men, but Lot compromised. He lived in Sodom which was subsequently destroyed by God. Abraham cultivated a relationship with God. He built altars and tithed, but there is no record of Lot ever doing so. Lot was blessed. He had huge flocks and herds. Lot left Abraham—a picture of leaving the Gospel of righteousness by faith. Lot was tormented in his soul when he saw and heard all the lawless deeds done in Sodom, but he never left the city—he compromised. “and delivered righteous Lot, who was very distressed by the lustful life of the wicked (for that righteous man dwelling among them, was tormented in his righteous soul from day to day with seeing and hearing lawless deeds):” (2 Peter 2:7-8 WEB) 1 Peter 1:15-16 - We are all for holiness, but how can we be holy in our behavior? “but just as he who called you is holy, you yourselves also be holy in all of your behavior; because it is written, “You shall be holy; for I am holy.”” (1 Peter 1:15-16 WEB) 1 Peter 1:13-14 - Rest your hope fully on the Grace of God. Doing that is to be obedient children. When you know and believe that you have been forgiven and that you have a new identity in Christ, you can live a holy life. “Therefore prepare your minds for action, be sober, and set your hope fully on the grace that will be brought to you at the revelation of Jesus Christ— as children of obedience, not conforming yourselves according to your former lusts as in your ignorance,” (1 Peter 1:13-14 WEB)
