13 February 2022 - Rest And See His Goodness - New Creation Church Sermon Notes - Pastor Lim Lian Neo

New Sermon Notes: Pastor Lian encouraged us to believe the Lord for His abundance to manifest in all areas of our lives this year. Rest in His goodness and see Him accelerate all the blessings.

Psalm 65:11 - Believe the Lord for His abundance to manifest in all areas of your life this year. Rest in His goodness and see Him accelerate all the blessings.

“You crown the year with Your goodness, And Your paths drip with abundance.” (Psalms‬ ‭65:11‬ ‭NKJV‬‬)

Hebrews 3:10-12 - We rest in God through faith in Him.

“Therefore I was displeased with that generation, and said, ‘They always err in their heart, but they didn’t know my ways;’ as I swore in my wrath, ‘They will not enter into my rest.’” Beware, brothers, lest perhaps there be in any one of you an evil heart of unbelief, in falling away from the living God;” (Hebrews‬ ‭3:10-12‬ ‭WEB‬‬)

Pastor Lian shared a testimony of a woman who chose to rest in God and experienced her accelerated healing.

Matthew 11:28-29 - The word “labor” in Greek is “kopiaó” which means wearisome labor. The words “heavily burdened” in the Greek means to be anxious. The word “rest” in the Greek means to remain, to be refreshed, to take ease.
There is a rest that Jesus gives, and there is a rest that we find.
When we put Jesus in the center of our lives, we will find His rest.

““Come to me, all you who labor and are heavily burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart; and you will find rest for your souls.” (Matthew‬ ‭11:28-29‬ ‭WEB‬‬)

Resting means not be using your own effort to force, drive, nag, etc. Let go and let God take over.

Pastor Lian shared a testimony of a student who was struggling in Chinese, but after she learned to rest in Jesus, she scored a good result in her final examinations.

Isaiah 30:15 - The word for “returning” in Hebrew is “teshuvah”. The last Hebrew letter in the word is “hei” which means grace. We return to grace.
The word for “saved” in Hebrew is “yasha” which means defend, deliver, help, preserve, get victory, etc.

“For thus said the Lord Yahweh, the Holy One of Israel, “You will be saved in returning and rest. Your strength will be in quietness and in confidence.” You refused,” (Isaiah‬ ‭30:15‬ ‭WEB‬‬)

John 1:17 - Grace is Jesus Himself. Return to Jesus.

“For the law was given through Moses. Grace and truth were realized through Jesus Christ.” (John‬ ‭1:17‬ ‭WEB‬‬)

Rest in God by casting your cares upon Him

Matthew 6:31 - To not worry means to take no thought. Research has shown that an average person has over 40,000 thoughts a day, and 80% of those thoughts are negative. A large proportion of the remainder are repetitive thoughts.

“Therefore take no thought, saying, What shall we eat? or, What shall we drink? or, Wherewithal shall we be clothed?” (Matthew‬ ‭6:31‬ ‭KJV‬‬)

Romans 12:2 - God wants to renovate our minds.

“Don’t be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, so that you may prove what is the good, well-pleasing, and perfect will of God.” (Romans‬ ‭12:2‬ ‭WEB‬‬)

1 Peter 5:7 - God will take care of every thought that we cast upon Him.

“casting all your worries on him, because he cares for you.” (1 Peter‬ ‭5:7‬ ‭WEB‬‬)

2 Corinthians 4:13 - Speak forth what you want to see, not the bad things that you are seeing.

“But having the same spirit of faith, according to that which is written, “I believed, and therefore I spoke.” We also believe, and therefore also we speak;” (2 Corinthians‬ ‭4:13‬ ‭WEB‬‬)

You do not need to work your way to Heaven. You cannot earn salvation. Rest in Jesus and His promises.

Exodus 17:8 - “Amalek” means “painful toil”. Rephidim means “resting places”. The devil comes to attack your rest so that you will be tempted to depend on your own efforts.

“Then Amalek came and fought with Israel in Rephidim.” (Exodus‬ ‭17:8‬ ‭WEB‬‬)

Exodus 17:9-12 - If you have a challenge, your victory is not dependent on your own strength. Moses on the top of the hill is a picture of Jesus on the cross.

“Moses said to Joshua, “Choose men for us, and go out, fight with Amalek. Tomorrow I will stand on the top of the hill with God’s rod in my hand.” So Joshua did as Moses had told him, and fought with Amalek; and Moses, Aaron, and Hur went up to the top of the hill. When Moses held up his hand, Israel prevailed. When he let down his hand, Amalek prevailed. But Moses’ hands were heavy; and they took a stone, and put it under him, and he sat on it. Aaron and Hur held up his hands, the one on the one side, and the other on the other side. His hands were steady until sunset.” (Exodus‬ ‭17:9-12‬ ‭WEB‬‬)

Matthew 26:53 - Jesus could have come down from the cross at any time. He stayed on the cross because He wanted to finish the work of securing our salvation. At the cross, Jesus bore every curse and disease for us.

“Or do you think that I couldn’t ask my Father, and he would even now send me more than twelve legions of angels?” (Matthew‬ ‭26:53‬ ‭WEB‬‬)

Rest is not inactivity. It is Spirit-directed activity.

1 John 4:18 - We see God’s perfect love demonstrated at the cross. The Father turned His back on Jesus at the cross so that today God will never reject us.

“There is no fear in love; but perfect love casts out fear, because fear has punishment. He who fears is not made perfect in love.” (1 John‬ ‭4:18‬ ‭WEB‬‬)
