New Sermon Notes: Pastor Lawrence Lim taught about a unique phrase used to praise the Lord. Every time Israel used this phrase, good things happened for them and they were strengthened.

Prophetic word: You will only see an increase of favor, provision, health, etc. in your life. God is a God of increase. Your path will shine brighter and brighter in Jesus’ name.

Psalm 33:1 - You look especially beautiful to God when you praise.

“Rejoice in the Lord, O you righteous! For praise from the upright is beautiful.” (Psalms‬ ‭33:1‬ ‭NKJV‬‬)

Psalm 147:1 - Your praises are pleasant to God.

“Praise Yah, for it is good to sing praises to our God; for it is pleasant and fitting to praise him.” (Psalms‬ ‭147:1‬ ‭WEB‬‬)

Matthew 21:12-16 - When the house of God (the church) is a house of prayer, healing miracles will happen.
Prayer does not make you fit for the greater work—prayer is the greater work.
The chief priests and scribes were envious because the children were declaring that Jesus is the Messiah.

“Jesus entered into the temple of God, and drove out all of those who sold and bought in the temple, and overthrew the money changers’ tables and the seats of those who sold the doves. He said to them, “It is written, ‘My house shall be called a house of prayer,’ but you have made it a den of robbers!” The blind and the lame came to him in the temple, and he healed them. But when the chief priests and the scribes saw the wonderful things that he did, and the children who were crying in the temple and saying, “Hosanna to the son of David!” they were indignant, and said to him, “Do you hear what these are saying?” Jesus said to them, “Yes. Did you never read, ‘Out of the mouth of babes and nursing babies you have perfected praise?’”” (Matthew‬ ‭21:12-16‬ ‭WEB‬‬)

Psalm 8:2 - This is the verse that Jesus quoted from. However, here it says “established strength” instead of “perfected praise”.
Praise causes you to be strengthened. Whatever your challenge may be, just praise the Lord. Something good happens when you praise the Lord. When you praise Him, you will silence the enemy and the avenger.

“From the lips of babes and infants you have established strength, because of your adversaries, that you might silence the enemy and the avenger.” (Psalms‬ ‭8:2‬ ‭WEB‬‬)

Praise the Lord for He is good and His grace endures forever!

Matthew 7:11 - When we pray and ask from the Father, it delights Him. He is pleased to supply all our needs.

“If you then, being evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father who is in heaven give good things to those who ask him!” (Matthew‬ ‭7:11‬ ‭WEB‬‬)

Healing is the will of God. Our God is a wonderful God and His heart is to heal you.

Psalm 118:1 - God’s goodness and grace endures forever.
When a Messianic Jew translated the New Testament to Hebrew, he translated the Greek word “charis” (grace) to “hesed”.

“Give thanks to Yahweh, for he is good, for his loving kindness endures forever.” (Psalms‬ ‭118:1‬ ‭WEB‬‬)

2 Chronicles 20:14-23 - Judah believed the prophetic word. Instead of sending the strongest soldiers in the frontline of battle, Jehoshaphat sent worshippers to the front of his army to praise the Lord. They specifically sang, “Give thanks to Yahweh; for his loving kindness endures forever.”
Instead of struggling by your own effort, just praise the Lord and see your victory!

“Then Yahweh’s Spirit came on Jahaziel the son of Zechariah, the son of Benaiah, the son of Jeiel, the son of Mattaniah, the Levite, of the sons of Asaph, in the middle of the assembly; and he said, “Listen, all Judah, and you inhabitants of Jerusalem, and you, king Jehoshaphat. Yahweh says to you, ‘Don’t be afraid, and don’t be dismayed because of this great multitude; for the battle is not yours, but God’s. Tomorrow, go down against them. Behold, they are coming up by the ascent of Ziz. You will find them at the end of the valley, before the wilderness of Jeruel. You will not need to fight this battle. Set yourselves, stand still, and see the salvation of Yahweh with you, O Judah and Jerusalem. Don’t be afraid, nor be dismayed. Go out against them tomorrow, for Yahweh is with you.’” Jehoshaphat bowed his head with his face to the ground; and all Judah and the inhabitants of Jerusalem fell down before Yahweh, worshiping Yahweh. The Levites, of the children of the Kohathites and of the children of the Korahites, stood up to praise Yahweh, the God of Israel, with an exceeding loud voice. They rose early in the morning, and went out into the wilderness of Tekoa. As they went out, Jehoshaphat stood and said, “Listen to me, Judah, and you inhabitants of Jerusalem! Believe in Yahweh your God, so you will be established! Believe his prophets, so you will prosper.” When he had taken counsel with the people, he appointed those who were to sing to Yahweh, and give praise in holy array, as they go out before the army, and say, “Give thanks to Yahweh; for his loving kindness endures forever.” When they began to sing and to praise, Yahweh set ambushers against the children of Ammon, Moab, and Mount Seir, who had come against Judah; and they were struck. For the children of Ammon and Moab stood up against the inhabitants of Mount Seir to utterly kill and destroy them: and when they had finished the inhabitants of Seir, everyone helped to destroy another.” (2 Chronicles 20:14-23 WEB)

Psalm 118:1-4 - The same phrase is repeated in several places in the Old Testament.

“Give thanks to Yahweh, for he is good, for his loving kindness endures forever. Let Israel now say that his loving kindness endures forever. Let the house of Aaron now say that his loving kindness endures forever. Now let those who fear Yahweh say that his loving kindness endures forever.” (Psalms‬ ‭118:1-4‬ ‭WEB‬‬)

1 Chronicles 16:1-2, 7, 34 - The first time the phrase was used was when David brought back the Ark of the Covenant to be placed in the tabernacle of David.
It was even used during the dedication of Solomon’s temple.
This is a unique, recurring phrase. Whenever it was used, something good happened.

“They brought in God’s ark, and set it in the middle of the tent that David had pitched for it; and they offered burnt offerings and peace offerings before God. When David had finished offering the burnt offering and the peace offerings, he blessed the people in Yahweh’s name. Then on that day David first ordained to give thanks to Yahweh, by the hand of Asaph and his brothers. Oh give thanks to Yahweh, for he is good, for his loving kindness endures forever.” (1 Chronicles‬ ‭16:1-2, 7, 34‬ ‭WEB‬‬)

Acts 15:15-17 - The apostle James quoted from the prophet Amos. The Tabernacle of David is for our end-times. The phrase that David used when setting up the Ark of the Covenant in his tabernacle is also for us to use today when we praise the Lord.

“This agrees with the words of the prophets. As it is written, ‘After these things I will return. I will again build the tabernacle of David, which has fallen. I will again build its ruins. I will set it up, That the rest of men may seek after the Lord; all the Gentiles who are called by my name, says the Lord, who does all these things.” (Acts‬ ‭15:15-17‬ ‭WEB‬‬)

Carry a spirit of praise and thanksgiving and you are setting yourself up for success.

Praise and thanksgiving are not just religious rituals. We do it because our God is a good God and there is no evil in Him. The devil is evil and there is no good in him.
God’s goodness cannot be exaggerated, but it can be undermined by the wicked and ignorant.

Acts 10:38 - Jesus is still doing good among us today.

“even Jesus of Nazareth, how God anointed him with the Holy Spirit and with power, who went about doing good and healing all who were oppressed by the devil, for God was with him.” (Acts‬ ‭10:38‬ ‭WEB‬‬)

Romans 8:28 - We praise God not because our circumstances are good, but because He is good. He will turn our circumstances around for our good.

“We know that all things work together for good for those who love God, to those who are called according to his purpose.” (Romans‬ ‭8:28‬ ‭WEB‬‬)

John 1:14-18 - Grace is Jesus personified.

“The Word became flesh, and lived among us. We saw his glory, such glory as of the one and only Son of the Father, full of grace and truth. John testified about him. He cried out, saying, “This was he of whom I said, ‘He who comes after me has surpassed me, for he was before me.’” From his fullness we all received grace upon grace. For the law was given through Moses. Grace and truth were realized through Jesus Christ. No one has seen God at any time. The one and only Son, who is in the bosom of the Father, he has declared him.” (John‬ ‭1:14-18‬ ‭WEB‬‬)

Ephesians 2:4-10 - We are not saved by good works, but for good works.
We have been saved by grace. That is why we praise the Lord—for His goodness and grace towards us.
Grace is for the undeserving. It is God’s unmerited favor.

“But God, being rich in mercy, for his great love with which he loved us, even when we were dead through our trespasses, made us alive together with Christ (by grace you have been saved), and raised us up with him, and made us to sit with him in the heavenly places in Christ Jesus, that in the ages to come he might show the exceeding riches of his grace in kindness toward us in Christ Jesus; for by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God, not of works, that no one would boast. For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared before that we would walk in them.” (Ephesians‬ ‭2:4-10‬ ‭WEB‬‬)

Romans 6:14 - This same grace that saved us is what will cause our lives to be radically transformed for good.

“For sin will not have dominion over you. For you are not under law, but under grace.” (Romans‬ ‭6:14‬ ‭WEB‬‬)

Matthew 26:30 - The hymn that Jesus and the disciples most likely sang was the “hallel” (the psalms from Psalm 113-118).

“When they had sung a hymn, they went out to the Mount of Olives.” (Matthew‬ ‭26:30‬ ‭WEB‬‬)

Psalm 118:28-29 - The very last lines of Psalm 118, of the hallel, is the same phrase.
Pastor Lawrence believes that this phrase strengthened Jesus and reminded Him how it was His mission to demonstrate God’s goodness and grace through His sacrifice at the cross.

“You are my God, and I will give thanks to you. You are my God, I will exalt you. Oh give thanks to Yahweh, for he is good, for his loving kindness endures forever.” (Psalms‬ ‭118:28-29‬ ‭WEB‬‬)

Philippians 4:6-7 - We lifted our three prayer requests to God. Our good God shall surely answer our requests!

“In nothing be anxious, but in everything, by prayer and petition with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your thoughts in Christ Jesus.” (Philippians‬ ‭4:6-7‬ ‭WEB‬‬)

All Things Made New: How to Prosper in All Things Through God's Restoration

After you overcome each challenge, God does not leave you as broken pieces. He restores you by putting you back together and sealing the cracks with gold—the workings of His Grace. You become more precious and valuable than if you did not go through hardships.

The Japanese art of Kintsugi is a perfect illustration of this. The practitioner takes a broken earthen vessel, assembles the pieces, and literally seals the cracks with gold. It is restored as a beautiful art piece, more valuable than before it was broken.
